The hotel has excellent modern facilities in the oldest part of Lisbon. We had a superior room with a terrace which gave you a view of the old town. The welcoming bottle of port was a nice touch, and the other creature comforts like tea and coffee machine, bath robes and good toiletries made you feel like you were wanted... more

We spent 4 nights here in early August. Would agree with the positive reviews re the view - and the warnings about the steep narrow cobbled streets nearby. But that's all part of the local colour - and the challenge of walking down to (and up from!) the city centre via steps and laneways added to our enjoyment. The trams... more

Great for the price. Location is hilly and in the middle of the Alfama district. Not recommended if you intend to drive to and from the hotel on a daily basis. Alfama is a nightmare in which to navigate a car. Staff was courteous and professional. 10 Euro taxi ride to the airport. more

This hotel is a beautiful retreat from the loud, bustling city below. The views from our room were awesome. The room was very large and very beautifully and comfortably furnished, which does not seem to be common in Portugal. The receptionist recommended a Fado restaurant nearby that was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Breakfast offered more than enough choices and we... more

We were so glad we chose this hotel. Quiet and relaxed sophistication. Nice breakfast, pleasant staff. GREAT LOCATION. Just be sure you bring the name of this hotel written on a piece of paper as taxi drivers NEVER understood what we were saying. Also the bed was extremely hard, seemed a common description on this euro trip. No hesitation to... more

This hotel certainly lived up to the good reviews. The staff are very helpful and the rooms are very clean as is the hotel in general. We didn't find the hike to the centre very taxing and the trams are frequent for those with tired legs. A word about taxi vouchers - we purchased one on arrival at the tourist... more

Stayed here 15/4/08 for three nights. Room 205. Paid 145 Euro prpn including breakfast. Booked through hotel website. Unlike most hotels in Lisbon (which are in the lower part of the city), this one is located a long way up a steep hill on a backstreet near the Castle. It is a few minutes walk from a tram stop, or... more

Located in a quiet historic neighborhood...can really get the feel of the locals. Beautiful hotel, very nice breakfast included. Get a room with a terrace, worth the few extra dollars. The beds and pillows are typical European and very hard. Only 21 rooms. more

Excellent hotel. Super location near the castle and well away from other tourist hotels. Numerous good local restaurants in the Alfama and over towards Graca. Strong legs needed for all the hills, but healthy appetites assured! more

My husband and I stayed at the Olissippo Castelo for a week around Christmas 2007 and had a wonderful time. The only drawback I can think of is that the hotel is located on top of a steep hill. We didn't mind the exercise, but you can always take the tram, which stops close by. The hotel is the best... more
