We stayed here for 3 nights and apart from the location(overlooking the main Rossio square) everything else was very poor quality. They say that rooms have private bathrooms but it is actually improvised toilet in the room separated with some plastic kind of wall. So small and dirty. No elevator(3+ stort building) , very old, definitely would not stay here... More

I enjoyed my stay at Santa Tirso, which is well located for sightseeing Lisbon, with the Metro Green line just across the Rossio. The only drawback for my arthritic knee was climbing up and down the three long flights of stairs. The folks are friendly and the room was clean and quite adequate. The cafe at the street level serves... More

Me and my mates stayed in this hotel. This hostel really has the perfect location if you're visiting Lisbon. The service in the hotel from the man behind the reception was excellent. At first we booked the cheapest room, but it was quite warm in there and it didnt because it didnt had a window. When we told him that... More

It is very hard to beat the location. A supermarket is very close, there are some cafes and bakery shops. From your window you can see the castle as well as Rossio Square. At the square there is always going on something. Because of that you might awake a little earlier sometimes. You can reach Bairro Alto and the river... More

This hotel is on Rossio square so it is a fantastic location and a good price. However it is a really long climb up a lot of steps and no lift. The rooms are also dirty and very tiny. On another plus most of the staff are very friendly and are happy for you to leave your luggage after you... More

This little pension was all we needed. Tiny rooms, spotlessly clean. Family run and definitely a budget place, but the location couldn't be beat. If all you need is a clean safe place to rest while you explore Lisbon, this is for you.

Great location in the heart of Lisbon, with a view of the Castle of St. George. However, problem is very steep steps to the third floor. The staff are friendly and speak English. Nearby are many inexpensive cafes and restaurants. In the evening you can listen to fado.

The hotel has a perfect location in the city center. Although I had to climb many stars, I had a stunning view on the city and castle. The hotel's stuff were nice, helpful and polite. I can recommend it!

The pensâo is located in Praça Dom Pedro IV thus giving you a great central location for sight seeing and nightlife in the nearby Bairro Alto. The pensâo itself is 3 floors up with no lift so getting luggage up and down is a bit of a struggle. Our double room at €36 per night was clean and a decent... More

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighborhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
