If you want a historic setting, unique rooms, tranquillity and calm in a big city, very helpful and knowledgeable staff, stay here. If you need to do business, need broadband, wants lots of staff running around, lots of people in the hotel, more than just breakfast, then stay elsewhere. We could only spend one night (its not an easy place... more

We stayed four days at the Palacio Belmonte from September 11th to September 14th and we'd like to convey our disappointment over the service received. It was nowhere near our expectations. First we have to say the positive things : this is a great building, in quiet and astonishing surroundings and a very nice place to stay and discover. And... more

My drinking partner and i were surprisingly transferred to the Palacio at the last minute due to flood problems at our other hotel -at no extra cost.! A free taxi took us to the door and we were met by the manager for a guided tour of this amazing ,historic hotel. We were given a huge two bedroom ,two bathroom suite... more

Our recent stay at Palacio Belmonte was very special: this was a 14th-century palace that has been exquisitely restored in such a way as to evoke the ancient aristocratic atmosphere while allowing for some of the new and creative design trends (including a few quirky ones) to come through. From the garden and from the terrace, the views of Alfama... more

I routinely check this site before foreign hotel selection and this is the first review I have written. We have travelled all over the world and generally stay at 5 star hotels where ever we go. I have to say the Belmonte is the coolest, most unique hotel we have ever stayed at. The location, atmosphere, room, service and history... more

We spent many weeks investigating hotels in and around Lisbon and concluded the Palcio Belmonte was by far the best value for money. This is NOT a budget location but the savvy traveller would do well to consider this hotel. The location is first class and can not in my opinion be bettered, this is the heart of Lisbon, the... more

This exclusive property which has been used by kings and queens was such a treat during our recent visit to Lisbon. Prior to our arrival, we phoned the hotel and informed them of our allergy to cigarette smoke. When we arrived, the staff greeted us and escorted us to the Ricardo Reis Suite. A huge suite with 5 rooms. Much... more

We stayed at the Palace Belmonte from the 22nd of June till the 24th. This hotel is a real hidden gem!! The location is perfect (close to the castle) and the service is great (eventhough the portugees way of service is not always up to other standards). The hotel is very romantic so I would really advice this hotel for... more

Before going to the Belmonte we read the previous review and looked at the web-site - and were still surprised by what we found. This is not a five star hotel - it is hardly a hotel at all, being run like a private house which happens to have guests. The public rooms are truely amazing with beautifully preserved tiles,... more
