Nice hotel. Checkin and out: Efficient and friendly. Room: Good bed, had a good sleep. Room is more living room at home, doesn't feel like a hotel. Location: Fantastic. Easy to get there, also easy to be picked up. Overall: Very good value for your money. Friendly staff. It is not high scale, it is what you need.

The hotel is very easy to find from the Rato metro station. As you exit the stairs, look to your left. Provided a fruit vendor is not blocking the view down Rua da Escola Politecnica, you will immediately see the yellow exterior. Inside, the rooms are individually decorated and very clean. Azulejo (the blue and white tiles of Portugal) line... More

Right at the edge of the touristic area, but still calm, in a good location, you can find Casa De Sao Mamede. It is a small hotel, with uniquely decorated rooms of different size. Friendly staff, that speaks partly only poor English, however you can always get along with everyone. We had a small room with bathroom, both were in... More

We spent most of our two week Lisbon holiday at Casa De Sao Mamede and would certainly choose it again if/when we return. It is conveniently located near a Metro station, and you can also walk to other neighborhoods (we walked to the waterfront, the Baixa, through Bairro Alto, and to the area near parque eduardo vii). The hotel is... More

Casa De Sao Mamede is an attractive, pleasant and comfortable hotel in a charming neighborhood in Lisbon. The staff at the front desk were friendly, helpful and spoke excellent English. (And they pointed us to Couto--our very favorite restaurant in Lisbon for dinner.) Our room was small but very nicely furnished.(If there was any drawback at all it was that... More

What a find, a lovely hotel with good size rooms and bathrooms all fairly recently done up. Friendly helpful staff and a great location to get to everything from Breakfast was a cold buffet and was good for a 3* hotel. The mattress maybe a little too firm for some?

Beautiful old house once belonged to a magistrate. Charming rooms, recently upgraded and perfect position to tour Lisbon in Bairro Alto. No elevator. Good breakfast with wide choice in a charming first floor room. Helpful and friendly staff.

We stayed in this friendly and very central hotel for St Patrick's Weekend and to run in the Lisbon Half Marathon. We could not find any fault with this hotel including the healthy breakfast of cereals, fruit, cheese, cold meats, omellette and a good selection of breads along with great coffee overlooking the old square. We will be back and... More

We booked 2 bedrooms one a upgraded room which was large airy and well furnished, the other though smaller was also well fitted out. Both bathrooms appear to have been recently updated and were a pleasure to use. The one niggle would be the breakfast which was sparse and offered nothing that was freshly cooked. All in all a great... More

I think very highly of this hotel. The building is old, and beautiful, but sensitively brought up to date so that (for example) the bathrooms are efficient and modern. Bedrooms are pleasantly individual, and certainly give me an excellent rest. The wireless network works well. Breakfast is simple but good. The staff are very good - helpful, always available but... Official Description (provided by the hotel)
"Casa de Sao Mamede" is a small family hotel (26 rooms). Built in the XVIIIth century as the residence of a magistrate. This beautiful building has maintained all the charm of an old family home. It is one of the first buildings to be constructed in the traditional system of "birdcage" - earthquake proof construction used after earthquake of 1755. Having been adapted to a hotel unit in 1948 it knew how to keep throughout the years, the treatment, the tradition and the atmosphere of a true family house. Always trying to preserve the past we did not relinquish however the comfort requirements that contemporary life demands so all the rooms have: private bathroom, telephone, digital safe, satellite television, double glass and air-conditioned with individual command. The fact that we're dealing with a small hotel type unit allow us to grant a more personalized treatment to each customer. ... more   less
