We stayed in this friendly and very central hotel for St Patrick's Weekend and to run in the Lisbon Half Marathon. We could not find any fault with this hotel including the healthy breakfast of cereals, fruit, cheese, cold meats, omellette and a good selection of breads along with great coffee overlooking the old square. We will be back and... More

We booked 2 bedrooms one a upgraded room which was large airy and well furnished, the other though smaller was also well fitted out. Both bathrooms appear to have been recently updated and were a pleasure to use. The one niggle would be the breakfast which was sparse and offered nothing that was freshly cooked. All in all a great... More

I think very highly of this hotel. The building is old, and beautiful, but sensitively brought up to date so that (for example) the bathrooms are efficient and modern. Bedrooms are pleasantly individual, and certainly give me an excellent rest. The wireless network works well. Breakfast is simple but good. The staff are very good - helpful, always available but... When we first arrived outside the hotel my heart did sink a bit as its on a busy road and looked run down. However, once inside, I found a clean and historic building. The staff were friendly and breakfast was OK. On new years eve they provided port and nibbles when we got back. I thought the hotel was value for... More

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. It was close to the metro and there was a variety of restaurants nearby (some good, some not so good). The room was a good size, and the bathroom also. The bed a bit on the hard side, but no worse than others we had slept on during our... More

This is a charming hotel that is not overwhelmed with tourists. My room was very nicely decorated and felt like home, not a hotel. Breakfast room is on the second floor along the front of the building with tall, bright windows offering light and a view of the street. Staff are very friendly and personable. It is very quiet despite... More

We booked 5 nights with this lovely hotel through reading the Trip Advisor reviews. We were not disappointed. On arrival we were greeted with a good old fashioned welcome by a lady who was full of warmth and charm and always eager to help, as were other staff members. Our room fronting the main street was squeaky clean as was... More

How refreshing it is to find such a hotel in this day and age. Although we had problems booking, due to language problems, on our arrival, Maria (aka Christina) the owner, sorted everything out immediately, and combined with the fact that it was our 40th wedding anniversary, graciously gave us an upgrade at no extra charge. What must have once... More

My husband chose this hotel for its old world charm, and location. We were greeted by the owner who gave us a choice of rooms; we decided on Room 109, with its four poster bed and a bath (and bidet) on the first floor. You got to it through the little library with its large candelabra. Our window looked onto... More

Having lived in Lisbon we weren´t looking forward to visiting the city and having to stay in a hotel, but this hotel made us forget all this. First of all it is centrally located and everything is pretty much within walking distance. From Avenida Liberdade to Principe Real to Santa Catarina to one of Lisbon´s most famous neighborhoods Bairro Alto,... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
"Casa de Sao Mamede" is a small family hotel (26 rooms). Built in the XVIIIth century as the residence of a magistrate. This beautiful building has maintained all the charm of an old family home. It is one of the first buildings to be constructed in the traditional system of "birdcage" - earthquake proof construction used after earthquake of 1755. Having been adapted to a hotel unit in 1948 it knew how to keep throughout the years, the treatment, the tradition and the atmosphere of a true family house. Always trying to preserve the past we did not relinquish however the comfort requirements that contemporary life demands so all the rooms have: private bathroom, telephone, digital safe, satellite television, double glass and air-conditioned with individual command. The fact that we're dealing with a small hotel type unit allow us to grant a more personalized treatment to each customer. ... more   less
