Couldn’t ask for a better location in Lisbon! In the heart of Alfama you’ll find the self-catering apartments that make up Páteo Santo Estevão. Mariza kindly arranged the taxi for us from the airport (great service from Rui Marques!) and gave a helpful overview of the area of how best to get about. But don’t forget, half the fun is... More

When we arrived it was a bit hard to find, but we got a warm welcome and the appartment was nice and clean. We stayed in appartement 5. If you are taller than 1.75 cm you have a problem with the beds, but for us it was ok. Location is perfect for exploring the city!

Nice self-catering apartments in the Alfama area of Lisbon. Right in the old town and 15 minute walking to the central square, shops, and the water. These apartments have a lovely central patio to sit outside and have a glass of wine. Very safe as the main door locks and you then walk down stairs to the courtyard and separate... More

This guest apartment is located in the heart of Alfama, close to restaurants, fado and sights. It is clean, and very affordable although the room is very small. We enjoyed the shared patio and were pleased by the map and restaurant recommendations of the host.

Really great spot to start your tours in Lissabon. Right on top of Alfama wit a perfect view to the sea just in fron of the main door. Kitchen area is big enough to prepare meals but you wont need it since there are tons of great and cheap restaurants in the small streets of Alfama. Bathroom is clean and... More

A warm and friendly welcome awaited at Pateo Santo Estevao Apartments, we were greeted with a map, and given all the information we needed on arrival, and contact numbers should we need to contact any of the team. Details that made all the difference. The apartment itself had a great view of the city, and was clean and fresh. Located... More

The location is excellent in the heart of Lisbon in Alfama. The place is really cosy and confortable. We were very well received by Maria Alves who helped us with all the information we needed to make the most out of our four days in Lisbon. The studio was a bit dark but it was confortable and had everything we... More

The good points: The location is great - right in the middle of the old town! It was really lovely to leave the apartment every morning and wander through the lanes and streets which were full of local people. The manager/owner of the apartments is very friendly and it was a pleasure dealing with her. The bad points: Unfortunately we... More

Just back from a 7 night stay at Apartment 6 and cannot recommend these apartments highly enough. Firstly, Mariza was so friendly and accommodating. She was happy to accomodate an early arrival and upon arriving provided a detailed map of Alfama (more detailed than any map in the guide books we had purchased), explaining where local transport connections were and... Stayed here with hubby last Dec and we had a wonderful time here! Great, attentive service from Mariza, who gave us directions to the place via email. It was still a little tricky trying to locate the place from the Santa Apolonia train station. Go by the roads with the cars if you're going by night - it's safer and... More

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighborhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
