This hotel is in the perfect location for all the main city sights. The rooms are very dated but they were well cleaned every day and all the staff were extremely friendly and very helpful. The breakfast was okay but quite limited. If you are looking for luxury this is not the hotel for you. But it is a good,... More

The location of the hotel is really fantastic, overlooking Rossio Square. The hotel staff were so friendly and helpful offering helpful tips on places to visit. The fabric of the hotel was last revampted in the mid 1990's - I;m afraid the facilities are showing their age and most certainly need to updated as a matter of urgency. There are... More

The hotel has an excellent location, at the Rossio square. Great views from rooms facing that way, but some noise from trafic, of course. Rooms facing the back are quiet. Very friendly atmosphere, helpfull staff. But the hotel is old and somewhat worn down. Also chairs and beds. Water on my bath floor floats the wrong way. An old, nice... More

Our priority was location and HM delivered a balcony room with a lovely view over the Rossio Square towards the castle (worth the extra cost). We could take lots of great walks and had easy access to the trams. The staff were friendly and helpful. I particularly enjoyed the option of relaxing in the lounge area and served free coffee... We stayed here at the end of October and had a good experience . I would not give it 5 stars because things are somewhat run down but the location is awesome right in the center of the Rossio. When we arrived early in the morning they invited us to have their breakfast buffet (average) even though we did not... More

The metropole is ideally located to explore Lisbon. It's all on the doorstep. The hotel was last decorated in 1993 and is need of a refresh. some of the furniture was stained and tired. There were a couple of chairs in the breakfast room where the padding had gone and needed replacing. The nets in the room were dirty and... More

After reading the reviews here, we expected a somewhat run down hotel with moldy showers in a great location. We were pleasantly surprised. You should be prepared to enter into a 30's or 40's art-deco world with regard to the furnishings, which are all period pieces. This is in keeping with atmosphere of Rossio Square. When you enter the room... More

Worn stale stained carpets chairs etc. Very basic breakfasts. Bed lined and towels although clean seemed old and worn. We received a phone. Had a call from reception asking us if everthing was ok and were we smoking in the room! The shower had just been used as had the hairdryer, this set alarm bells ringing in reception....literally! The location... More

This hotel could not be better located in the centre of Lisbon. Most attractions are within walking distance (but some are up steep hills). The entrance is small (between a busy restaurant and a pharmacy. The interior has seen better days but it is functional. The lounge doubles as a breakfast room. Our room was on the fifth (top) floor... More

This is a hotel with worn down furniture and interior. The breakfast is very plain, not a vegetable in sight. The big plus is the perfect location in the middle of the Baixa area, wich gives a little noise when the windows are open of course. Very friendly and professional staff.

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighborhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
