We were dismayed to arrive here as the website clearly showed a wonderful illuminated building (which you assume is the hotel) situated further along on the other side of the street. This illustration now seems to have been removed, and the actual entrance to the hotel is a gloomy and smelly doorway. There is no lift and 60 steps, which... More

We spent the last 3 nights here and found it to be very clean, quiet, secure, great central location just steps from the metro, and we had the best hostel breakfast ever with dozens of selections! Paula was extremely helpful with directions, recommendations and lending items. All the rooms have a private bath. The only thing that might concern some... More

Paula is well informed, readily available, and more than willing to help with all matters. The breakfast is good and the location is centrally located. And the rooms were clean. Paula made us feel welcome .

My friend and I were staying in this hostel for quite a long time, almost two weeks. It is located PERFECTLY in the center of Lisbon, just a few steps from Baixa/Chiado subway station. The hostel is not very big, but it offers a family atmosphere. Our room was very small, with two seperate beds. It would have been nice... More

The rooms are nice and very clean. The owner Paula made a nice, very large breakfast every morning! She was also great for inside tips for trips in and around Lisbon! This place is a good value for it's money, we will come back and we recommend it to people that go to Lisbon!

The hotel is situated in the middle of the historic center, so it´s closed to all main attractions. Also the famous tram no. 28 is just one street down from this hotel, so it´s easy to get the tram. Rooms are very nice with private shower and WC. The price include breakfast, so you can eat something sweet but also... More

Central location, very close to metro, tram line 28, and walking distance to some central points of interest. Nice, clean, sturdy. Good service, a little bit evasive manner, but maybe it's due to us in some way? Interesting decor, Alice in Wonderland and pinkification. Stairs are a bit of a work out after a day in the city, not for... More

My older (mid-60s) parents and I stayed in this hostel for three nights. The rooms are a bit small but Paula, one of the owners, is phenomenal and everything was clean, warm, and welcoming. Paula prepared a wonderful breakfast every morning and gave us personalized itineraries and excellent restaurant recommendations. She was also available for any questions, any time. I... More

We stayed for a week in September 2014. After researching various places online we decided to give Pensao Royal a go - it was the price and also pictures of other travellers who have visited. The location is great. You can walk anywhere from here. Be ready to walk up 3 floors to reach your room - there is no... More

The Pensao Royal was everything it said it'd be; great location, great price, great breakfast, and great advice! If you are on a budget and want a safe, clean, welcoming accommodation in Lisbon, then go to the Pensao Royal.

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighborhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
