We arrived rather tired after a long day in Lisbon. Although I had been to Ourém before, Father Mariani's driving instructions proved to be very useful; the last few miles are always quite tricky. What a wonderful sight it was to see Casa Alta again ... and what a grand reception we had. Father Mariani, Valentina (the cook), Igor (the... more

The graciousness and hospitality shown by the host were outstanding. The accommodations were comfortable, the meals delicious, the surrounding antiquities awe-inspiring. After four beautiful days there we continued on through Portugal, Spain and France; however, if we were to have returned home directly from Casa Alta, it would have been a wonderful experience by itself! We recommend Casa Alta Royal... more

I have just returned from a vacation in Portugal with friends and we all agree that our stay at Casa Alta was a magical part of our trip. For those travelers who read the comments by the disgruntled reviewer who was disappointed that their accommodations were not in a castle, do not be put off. If they had done any... more

In February 2009 we spent a couple of days in Ourem in Casa Alta. We were absolutely delighted. The house with its antique furnishings was really enchanting. We felt very comfortable and enjoyed having drinks in front of the fire place before dinner. From the beautiful garden we had a spectacular view to the valley. Although it was February, one... more

Went to stay in a castle. It is not a castle, the accommodation is a room in a lodge beside ruins of a castle. Met by our host Fr M who appeared to be intoxicated. Had the evening meal, food was average with no description of what it was and no introduction of the wine which tasted of cheap plonk.... more

We spent the week following Christmas at Casa Alta this past December and came home thinking, "What a wonderful place to end the old year and welcome the new. " This historic lodge shares a mountaintop perch with Ourem Castle, adding spectacular views to its list of assets. From the ground floor --with sitting room, fireplace and cozy dining area... more

This is not a place for people who prefer the anonymity of large hotels: it is rather like being invited to a cosy private home. There seemed to be a constant flow of interesting people with whom we had lively conversations during candlelit dinners. Lunch, weather permitting, is served in a small, beautiful garden with a reflecting pool. During our... more

Wake up in the morning, look out the window and see the world at your feet before a delicious breakfast and on to the wonderous sights of Ourem and Fatima. Truly a castle in the sky. more

We loved the ambiance and personal touches. All the meals were elegant and the food was magnificent with generous portions. We found the hospitality to be most gracious and welcoming. The facility was spotless, had wonderful views, walking distance to Main Castle. The well maintained and inviting gardens and pool area were very relaxing. I would highly recommend this facility... more

There is simply no better place to say in the Fatima area. Located up at Ourem Castle, this is really the most charming B&B ever. There are twenty-mile views, a pool, gourmet meals, linen sheets, and really luxurious rooms with newly redone bathrooms. They let me take my breakfast in my room and sent up a tray each day. Most... more
