We stayed here over the Christmas period. This Hotel is not 5 star, but it makes up for this by having great character. Rooms are very clean and cosy. A big welcome and large open fire await you at Reception. The Dining Room has to be seen to be believed, after all this building was the Kings country residence. Same... More

It is not often you get to sleep in a former kings bedroom - yes you can say that in all honesty. This is a warm, very friendly family run hotel which is definitely not main stream. You dine in a room with floor to ceiling frescoes, and you can stroll to look at the integral chapel again with its ornate... More

I would like to say that I spent 4 months in Portugal working and I also stayed for 4 months in hotel Solar Dom Carlos. The owner, Innes was very kind and offered me a very good deal in a moment when I couldn't find any accommodation. Whenever I needed any kind of help there was someone that could help... More

My wife & I stayed here for 4 nights in October, fantastic location a few minutes’ walk from the Marina and restaurants. The hotel itself is a bit tricky to find in the car due to very narrow streets and one way systems but well worth the effort. The room was very spacious for two people, bathroom was large had... We spent a couple of nights here. If you are used to modern hotels this may not be for you, but we were glad to have stayed in a building with real history. If this place was invested in and turned into a boutique hotel people like me would not be able to afford to stay here. The painted dining... More

I've stayed at this hotel twice now and if you're looking to travel on a budget then it ticks all the boxes. The rooms are spacious, clean and contain a fridge which is always nice. The decor is a little tired but I suppose it adds to the charm and the staff are always very friendly and helpful. The breakfast... More

Once again I booked the hotel on the strength of the reviews, & the clise proximity to the town & beaches. Initially I was disappointed, we had room 31 right at the top no lift or hep offered to move our luggage to the room. Some aspects of the room were poor, light bulb not working and mostly no frosting... More

We have stayed for 9 days in Residence Solar Dom Carlos. Hotel impresses with its breakfast room with wonderful paintings and 18th century chapel. Our room on the 1st floor had an exit to the garden, good bathroom with hairdryer, but the walls needed repainting. Breakfast included ham, cheese, yoghurt, cereals, fruits and jam. Also they served bread and eggs... More

Have stayed here for going on 10 years. Innes the owner is fantastic, very helpfull and allowed us to barbacue in the courtyard garden. rest of the staff also amazing, one feels totally at home and not confined to a hotel room especially for long stays this is very appealing. location brilliant, breakfast most substantional.

We stayed in Dom Carlos one night. Location is good and central. Nice, clean, big room considering that it is an old building. Good breakfast in a beautiful breakfast room. Friendly staff. Not a five star hotel but good value for money.
