If you ever wondered what it would be like to stay in a place where you could imagine yourself sharing an elevator with Wallis Simpson or running into Somerset Maugham in the bar sipping a martini, this is the hotel for you. The sense of having slipped back into the Europe between the wars extends to the bedrooms as well... More

The hotel is worth the price with excellent location near the train station and city center as well as the lovely view on the river, the breakfast was ok, what bothered me though was extremely thin walls, I could hear all my neighbors conversations and squeaky bed (I know my neighbors had the same as I was woken up by... My parents stayed at this hotel, they have nothing bad to say. They had an amazing peaceful stay. The hotel was fully booked but very quiet. The view was spectacular, and within walking distant to all the shops, cafés. They'd definitely stay there again! Breakfast had a wide variety, wouldn't change a thing! Thanks Hotel Astoria!

This is a landmark, albeit a bit faded - it is a total throwback in time. Everything is mid-century, and in some cases mid-19th century! But the rooms are clean, the bathrooms work, the food is great - and you cannot beat the location. Forget the snooty "it was so old" reviews and love what this place is - and... More

We stayed two night sin the Hotel Astoria and it was really sweet. The rooms are very spacious and had the charm of old days. The view was fantastic on the Rio Mondego especially at night when all the lights wehere on. The location was also really good. Three minutes away from Coimbra A train station and 10 minutes walk... We checked into the hotel earlier today and checked out less than an hour later. This place is really basic...maybe even less than basic. Other reviewers were right that it needs serious updating ... but it was in such bad shape, we cut our visit short to avoid staying here. I understand older hotels having charm and my expectations are... More

My wife and I enjoyed a three night stay at The Astoria Hotel in Coimbra. The hotel is a throwback to the 1930s when it would be in its hey day.Today the Astoria is a little tired and worn it requires some smart tidying up,the carpets could do with replacing as they are grubby. However our bedroom was large and roomy with... As others have noted, the hotel needs some serious updating. Still, the location is excellent. The breakfast was more than sufficient and we enjoyed imagining what it must have been like staying there pre-WWI. The biggest caution I have is for the bed: beware if you are over 5'7. The furniture is all original, but people were shorter back then.... More

Excellent location just across from river and with pedestrian shopping street behind hotel. Near to bridge, restaurants, tourist info centre and shops. A landmark in the city. As other reviewers have noted, this hotel needs refurbishing and has faded grandeur. Art deco fittings. The lift took us back to old films with a leather bench inside and shutters to pull.... More

Hotel Astoria is a beautiful hotel that could use a lot of work. Perfect location, right in the middle of all that is happening, and the view of the river is beautiful. The hotel is very outdated, the rooms are carpet that look dirty. The beds were clean just again outdated. Wifi only in the lobby which was hard if... More
