I had to deliver a conference in Coimbra and the organizers booked me in this hotel because they know that I love charming hotels. And when I entered the room 309 and opened the curtains I was amazed by the wonderful view and the style of the room. It is true that the hotel needs some revamping, but it is... More

This is a delightful hotel, in the grand Art Deco style. Our room was in the turret, thrid floor, with balconies facing the river and the town. Great place to stay. Very reasonable package for two nights and Fado Show.We enjoyed touring the University, plus the Fado show at the Acappelo Theater. We also visited the fasinating Roman ruins just... More

Having read the previous experiences on 'Trip Advisor' I still decided go ahead and book the Hotel Astoria - and was really pleased that I did. Character and charm exemplify this hotel. The welcome from the staff was warm - the room (although a little 'tired') was large, clean with a good sized bathroom, our room looked out over the... More

Probably one of the oldest hotels in Coimbra and it certainly feels like it. The location is great overlooking the river and a decent walk up to the university or to the town center. The rooms are spacious but decoration and furniture old and chipped. Matresses are old and creaky. Bathroom tiles are stained ...overall does not feel like a... More

We stayed in this hotel for two nights. Location is great! You are in the middle of the lower town (restaurants/shops). University and Cathedrals are in the upper town. We took a bus to the Universuty area and walked down. Breakfast was good (meat/cheese, scrambled eggs/bacon/sausage, jam, Cereals) However my bed was only 1.90 meter, with a high wall of... More

We stayed here for two nights. We arrived by car. There is a small parking lot right in front, but it's hard to find a spot and it costs money starting at 0800 until 1900, I believe (but free on Sundays). There is a free lot across the river, which fills up pretty quickly and once it does, cars are... More

I booked a cheap room (48€ B&B) online which was small, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The only bad point was the shower was a bit weak. The hotel is easy to find as its next to the river. The bar and restaurant are lovely, with leather armchairs and wood panelled walls, the lift is original made of wood and with... More

I am an easy going traveler. I don't expect the best everywhere I go, as long as it is clean. I was afraid of removing my sox. The wall to wall carpeting has not been changed nor cleaned in decades. Old atmosphere? Sure, but this was too much. Stayed only one night. The staff at the front desk was very... More

A very nice hotel. Built in 1926, literally a postcard from Coimbra. You can really find a postcard of the hotel in every gift shop. Great breakfast. Confortable rooms. Very beautiful brakfast room. Very beautiful reading room. Very nice employees. Great view. River Mondego in one side, the other the city and the University. I do recommend. More

The hotel's location, on the Riverfront close to (but downhill from) the major sights, was great. Parking in the public lot across the street was safe. We loved the old-time charm of the hotel....it felt like we were in a 1930's black and white movie. The staff was excellent....very helpful. Breakfast was very good.....lots of choices. My only complaint was... More
