Back in the roaring 20's this hotel was probably the talk of the town, however, I dont think any upkeep has been done since then. There were fairly disgusting stains on the carpets and walls throughout the hotel, including our room. There was also a smell emanating from the bathroom that could only be likened to a dead human body,... more

Stayed one night here in early June. Fellow inmates consist mostly of pensioners from France and other European countries. Everything in the hotel seems somehow skipped the second half of 20th century by a time warp. Good for the nostalgia seekers who retires early. more

In spite of the negative reviews describing the Astoria as rundown and neglected, we booked one night here because we thought those reviewers were simply unable to appreciate the "old world charm" described by other reviewers. We were wrong. The Astoria is TERRIBLY neglected. Yes, the location is perfect for seeing the town and sights in Coimbra. But that is... more

Although the location is convenient and the room was quite spacious the place is really awful. It is smelly, dusty, tired. The bathroom was a joke - tiny with antiquated equipment. The linens were cheap and old and the furniture from a yard sale. There is no internet in the room. The staff was almost friendly and almost competent. Do... more

We arrived by lunch time to check in. There's no car park but we were advised where to put our car by the staff and it didn't prove a problem. The town is amazing and we wandered about and got a feel for the place. We ate out in a local square listening to a jazz concert and watching the... more

Stayed in Astoria for 1 night. As previously mentioned, there are no better locations in Coimbra. The building is nice and the stuff is friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was not bad either. Parking lot across the road is full most of the time, but there are quite a few alternative locations. I managed to park across the street, but... more

My OH and I stayed here for 1 night last week. The hotel oozed old school charm - it's a beautiful building with stunning period furniture. We were in Room 409 which is on the top floor, effectively in the corner of the building. The room was large and spacious with 2 small balconies and even another small balcony off... more

Ever since I was a child I loved the look of this hotel. It is beautiful and has always stood out in mind. In 2006 I finally got my chance to stay here with my husband. We were very lucky to be put in one of the front rooms on the 3rd or 4th floor so our view was magnificent... more

The hotel has an ''old world charm'' and all the furniture and fittings hark back to the thirties. All the public rooms could be out of a Noel Coward play, and the bedrooms are very quaint. We enjoyed our stay in Coimbra and the hotel is in an excellent location, but both the restaurant and the bar in the hotel... more

We have just returned from a winter trip to Portugal. During our stay in Coimbra, we stayed at the Hotel Astoria. We had a wonderful time. We had booked 4 rooms and were pleased to find that each one was different - one had a separate "sitting" room. One had an entry room. Fun and kinda funky. The hotel is... more
