Remember staying in this beautiful place some years ago while visiting Sao Miguel. Nice terraces, good views, great room with beautiful rays of light in the morning, beautiful corridors and furniture. All very relaxing. Special place, really.

Beautiful B&B in an old convent. Beautifully restored with tasteful artefacts. When you first walk it your senses are hit by the slightest hint of old incense embedded in the flag stone floor. The rooms in the main building are a good size and we had a good view out over the pool. The pool is a good size with... More

It sure is unexpected. Before coming here, I have read the reviews on Tripadvisor with the mixed comments. But with the warm welcome of Manuel and his family, all doubts disappeared. Once the door of the convent opens you do not look at five stars hotel like there are dozens but at a comfortable residence with loads of character. Doors... More

We loved it here! Full of character and interest. Big rooms and excellent breakfasts. Not sure where the comments about the beds being uncomfortable come from - we found them fine. Really accommodating owners and the pool is much bigger than we expected. Well worth booking.

We had a wonderful stay. The building is as described by others inspiring on the inside but not on the outside. Great views from communal terrace and good pool and garden. Wonderful breakfasts and friendly hosts. Stay if you want to experience local colour and tradition rather than a standard hotel. We found the walk into town for local restaurants... More

If you have ever dreamed to stay in a convent or monastery then this is the place to go. It is not a conventional hotel at all.The location has got something magic. As expected, the place is quiet and peaceful. The swimming pool is the modern touch. Rooms are rather big and the breakfast is excellent. If you are ready... More

Characterful and friendly, if basic, hotel. Not a corporate chain and not to be judged by first impressions. Recommend a hire car because aside from the marina activities, there isn't much to do in the town. Beds are on the firm side but the architecture is splendid with most of the original features retained. Highly recommend this hotel which is... More

As with other reviews I have to agree that this is not a shiny modern hotel. It is however a remarkable building (albeit a work in progress) and would appeal to visitors with a sense of adventure. A list of features and services available would be useful in the rooms and we had to explore to find to tv room... More

Stayed at the El Convento de Sao Francisco for a week and found the place a revelation. Make no mistake this is not a corporate box hotel and if you want that go elsewhere. From the outside it is uninspiring but once through the large entrance doors you are transported into a tranquil well renovated environment. Our huge room was... More

A stay at the convento is a very different experience. If you regularly stay in boring corporate hotels then this place will be a breath of fresh air, though it may not be to everyone's taste. The rooms are huge and if you are staying during the low season when we were, they can be a bit on the chilly... More
