The hotel is perfectly located in Elvas which is a small city well worth a visit. A former monastery and then a hospital during the British Iberian campaign in the early 19th century, this hotel is built right on the city walls. Its tiled floors and high ceilinged rooms give it grandeur and the flowers and orange trees just off... More

A real gem and amazing value for money. This posado style hotel and former monastery is literally built into the walls of Elvas a World Heritage site in western Portugal just 12 kms from the Spanish border and the historic city of Badajoz. Many of the spacious rooms have balconies that would be better described as patios. The gardens are... More

Built in the corner of the actual city fortification, this is probably the best hotel in the area. Very spacious and clean rooms, a bit oldish maybe, that look out over the hinterland or the flower garden, with a huge bathroom and impressive peace and quiet... The long and dark corridors are a bit sinister maybe, but add to the... More

Nice hotel with big rooms and even bigger bathrooms with jacuzzi. Clean and historic atmosphere. Located by the gate and city wall. Nice service, very good wifi. Breakfast plain, just ok. Eggs and fruits are good, coffee awful.

Nice historic hotel with lovely gardens and a fabulous courtyard to enjoy a relaxing drink. Some of the rooms are a little prisonlike, others are situated over a road and seemed quite noisy. We found a good one at the fourth attempt. Staff friendly and helpful. The restaurant no longer opens except for breakfast, but an excellent one was recommended... More

We were blown away by this hotel. It is easily the best hotel we've stayed in on our trip to Portugal. Our room was spacious and the marble bathroom was simply gorgeous. Previous reviewers have covered just about everything but I will add that its location makes it perfect for visiting the sights in town. My husband told me that... More

The Hotel room 201 was outstanding & reasonably priced! Louis was very helpful and the perfect host on arrival! Breakfast at 7.30 to 10.30 & this was a restful stop to a month long tour of Spain & Portugal!

When was the last time you stayed in a hotel built into a fortified city wall? Previous reviewers covered the hotel in detail - I generally would like to second the June 6, 2013 review. This hotel announces itself with a large sign as you drive the road into town...best to use that to figure out where to park -... More

The hotel is located within the city walls, next to the entrance. We paid 55 Euro for a double bed room including internet and breakfast. The room is big as well as the bathroom. The size of the bathroom was untypical big with a jakuzi.

This former military hospital dating back to the Peninsular Wars and earlier is perched on the citadel wall commanding amazing views. The hotel is a lovely old building providing large bedrooms and spacious marble bathrooms. A good breakfast is served including scrambled egg bacon sausage as well as cold meats and cheese. The hotel is ideally situated for exploring the... More
