Rum Jar is a lovely home away from home, Peter is hospitable, and, as said here before, a walking encyclopaedia on WW1 and very generous with his time. I was fascinated by what he had to tell us, and my son said that our time talking to Peter was the best part of the trip to Ypres/Ieper. Good value too
What a great surprise. If you are interested in the Great War thats the place to stay, Peter is a walking ww1 encyclopedia and a great guy. The Rum Jar (an old Belgium house) feels more like a friend's place than a B&B. Location is great, rooms are big and clean and excellent value for money.

The strengths of this B and B are its lovely, helpful, gracious host, the charm of the rooms, accessibility to the main square, excellent breakfast, and very affordable rates for good size rooms. If you go to Ypres, plan ahead and book at this little B+B. Fantastic location slightly away from the town square (thus very quiet), a great host and a very comfortable room make this a lovely rest stop in the town.

It was large enough for the day bed that our daughter slept on without the room feeling cramped. No smell of smoke!. Our host Peter was friendly and we...

I stayed at the Rum Jar when booked in as part of a tour of the Western Front. This B&B is pretty much someone's house with guest rooms upstairs. The house is a little untidy, and filled with antiques and reproductions. A very serious problem is the very strong smoke smell in the house. Clearly the owners are heavy smokers....
