Don't expect 5 star luxury here. It's clean and comfortable and the owners are very friendly. We have stayed here several times over the last 15 years and it always seems like coming home. Christine is the real driving force here. The location could not be better as it's right on the main square, a couple of hundred metres from... More

If you are doing the Battlefields tour with a mate this place is great. If you want a romantic weekend break with your partner they will be disappointed. Me and my mate stayed here for two nights in rooms 13&16 both at the back of the hotel with no view. Not a problem for us. Yes the rooms are basic... More

Excellent location in this wonderful town, ideally placed for many sites, Menin Gate, Cloth Hall, St Georges Memorial Church and Cathedral within a short walk. Ok the place is a bit rickety when you go through to the rooms but to be honest it added to its charm. I was fortunate to get the room at the top and front... More

Excellent location on the square and underground cure parking available. Free wifi throughout. Great food available and friendly and personable owner and staff. Rooms in need of renovation and rubberised mattress protectors not pleasant. Alright for boys night out but if with wife or girlfriend, eat here but stay elsewhere.

Called here on spec early in the year for two nights. Wonderfully old fashioned in the bar and restaurant. Great view of the square from the bedroom window on the second night but not the first night we were at the very top and its no joke with no lift, however a room became vacant on the first floor which... My wife and I have stayed at Old Tom on a number of occasions and always found this family run hotel and restaurant to be very pleasant. We last stayed here about six or seven years ago and booked for two nights out of nostalgia. We stayed in room 12 which is quite roomy and overlooks the market square. The... More

Late review from July. I stayed for one night with the prime motivation being a visit to the Menin Gate etc. The hotel is right on the characterful main square (remarkably rebuilt after the WW1 carnage) with public parking on the square out front, which is payable during daylight hours. Basically, the rooms are up the back stairs of the... More

I have not really much experience of small family-run inns and restaurants in northern Europe, so don't know what to compare it with, but firstly i was grateful to get a room in Ipier on the day the Tour de France came through the town. It is ideally situated on the old square within walking distance of the railway station... More

Having read the reviews I was apprehensive but I was pleasantly surprised. The room is basic but perfectly clean - a bit of a hike up to the third floor but the view over the square is worth it - especially when a band plays outside the Cloth Hall and the music wafts in through your open window! The food... More

Having read the reviews about Old Tom I wonder what people expect for the money!!! yes the rooms are basic, but does that matter? they are clean and comfortable and are really only used for sleeping. We have stayed there on numerous occasions and have yet to be disappointed. Looking forward to going back again this November
