My husband and I spent one night at the Grand Hotel Damier while exploring Belgium. It is one of Belgium's oldest hotels and still has the "grand" charm with ornate D's on the towels, silverware and bedding and classic decor with lots of floorboards and moldings and flowery curtains. I thought the bedding was comfortable and I appreciated the floor... more

The hotel is nicely situated on the market square of Kortrijk. The rooms are not up to standards with a 4 star hotel though: no airconditioning, no mini bar, no hair dryer, dingy plumbing and a scruffy looking bedspread. Staff was very nice although not very much informed about what was going on in the area. more

Lovely old hotel in the middle of the beautiful city of Kortrijk. Nice large rooms. Breakfast was super, a lot of regional fresh products. All the staff was very friendly and helpful. By the way, it is the oldest hotel in Flanders, build in 1398 or something. more

location is great but easter weekend meant there was kermis (carnival, fair) on the grote markt which is normally a guarantee for noise but the disturbance was negligible. room was old, but okayish.the shower did indeed cause a minor flood, and the room could do with some airing out but it was alright. if we had paid the asking price... more

Hotel in a good position on the market square and the public rooms are very nice. We stayed in double room 14 which was tiny with scarcely room to walk round the bed. There was no tea and coffee making facilities, which is a must in a 4* hotel, no chest of drawers to put your smalls and only five... more

I stayed in this hotel twice because of business travels. The hotel rooms have been ok - even if the bathroom is a bit small. The hotel is known for its "boutique style" but I would suggest not to have too high expectations. The breakfast is ok, but not above average. The location is great, it is in the center... more

The Grand Damier is a hotel with the romance of times gone by, but simultaneously it provides all the modern luxuries that one wants. I fell in love with the hotel as soon as I walked in: with it's lobby reflecting a mixture of past elegance and modern art (as they participate in the Artists in Residence programme). The rooms... more

The hotel is located in the exact centre of Kortrijk, a nice little town in Belgium, near the French border, 30min from Lille. The hotel is in a very old and impressive building, and all interiors are very well maintained. Nevertheless, is a typical "old times" hotel, with lots of carpets and some smell of "old". The room I stayed... more

The hotel was very centrally located and breakfasts were nicely presented however our room was extremely small and dark' the paper had small blue diamonds on it and not good for migraine sufferers as it tended to affect the eyes the bathroom being nearly the same size as our room. The window of the room overlooked the flat roof of... more

There should always be an interesting level of tension between cultural heritage and innovation. I feel this special hotel on the market place of Kortryk found the right balance between the two. This historic hotel is charmingly appointed with period features & great artwork. I stayed in an elegant large room (room 31) with beautiful marble bathroom. Ideal location, professional... more
