We just returned from a 3 day trip to Bruges where we stayed at the Jan Brito hotel. It advertises as a non-smoking hotel and yet the room that we were allocated for our children was extremely smokey and it stank. Additionally we had specifically asked that our 2 bedrooms be side by side, which they were not. When we... More

We spent a long weekend here, great location with every thing a short walk away. We had Room 2, Great room on the first floor, we hired the bikes on the Sunday and as recommended by the concierge we cycled to a village called Damme, about 10mile round trip. If we go back to Bruges we will try and stay... More

I stayed here with 3 friends and we loved the place. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a suite which was fabulous - it had a mezzanine level (stairs up to it were very steep and tricky), a main bedroom section and a sittingroom. There were plenty of towels and toiletries in the bathroom and overall a... More

We stayed for three nights including breakfast. This hotel is delightful. It is extremely old and full of genuine, not manufactured historic charm! It is close to the ancient fish market and in a quiet street. We upgraded to a junior suite. The room was quite spectacular, especially the original restored cornice and ceiling rose. Our queen sized bed was... More

We stayed here for 2 nights in early April in a standard double room. We loved this hotel. It's an historic building, beautifully refurbished. Our room was small by very warm and cosy with lovely decor. There is a lovely lounge with a fire, and a delightful courtyard garden. It's very central . Staff were great. Breakfast great.

Just spent four days in Bruges - staying at the Jan Brito. The hotel's strengths are a) its location - very near the town centre but just far enough away not to be noisy b) its staff - very pleasant and helpful , especially in suggesting good restaurants! c) the bathroom had lots of towels and plenty of hot water... We arrive in Bruge for the first time, for my husbands birthday, prior to booking I had asked for breakfast in the room s it was to be a surprise, the clerk let the the surprise out of the bag on check in by telling my husband. I was furious, after being shown to our room we went down to reception... More

You should bear in mind that this is a very old building and great pains have been taken to ensure that original features (high ceilinged room with crazed mirrors, ancient armoires) remain. Therefore, choose your room accordingly as some may find such things a bit creepy. Breakfast is great and the staff are really excellent.

If you are "bling" sort of person and like everything shiny and new, then the Jan Brito might not appeal. However, for me, staff make a hotel and the staff were fantastic. The hotel's location is perfect for tramping the centre of Bruges: it is within easy walking distance of all the main sites/sights. We had a deluxe double room... More

first evening in Brugge occurred to be a nightmare because of this hotel. expected to stay at small old, nice, individually charactered hotel, judging by the photos. Turned out a really old (in worst sense), "warm eaten" place, room (suite) was big enough, antic decorated, with lots of curtains and old things, with nasty, unbearable smell, which made me shiver...
