This is a great place to stay if you love beautiful old buildings, peace and quiet (and definitely not the usual chain hotel ambience). An excellent breakfast in a lovely room overlooking a small formal garden. It won't be to everyone's taste, but we loved it when we first stayed here 12 years ago, and it's just as good today.

The hotel is not cheap (about 100 euros on average a night) but I enjoyed the location not far from St Michael's church and bridge. The building is picturesque. The room was fairly modest (but I really like modest). No shower, just a tub with sprayer. Staff was friendly and helpful enough. Breakfast was good. The breakfast room was particularly... More

If you like to feel the atmosphere of an historic townhouse of medieval style this hotel is for you! The lounge, the staircase, the rooms, the furniture, the courtyard, etc...everything has character and charm, located only a few minutes away from the historic center. We had a room at the upper level, which means it had high ceilings, the problem... More

An extremely ancient frontage, looks nothing like an hotel, it has a large old wooden door and you have to ring the bell to gain access, but once checked in you will get a key. The decor and furniture is very 'olde world' which is very in keeping with the building, bare creaking staircases, and even a suit of armour... More

The Erasmus has true old world charm, and classic personal service. Our group stayed 4 nights and had 4 rooms, all facing the formal garden in the back. The front street is quiet and not a through street for cars. Each room we had was spacious and unique. The breakfast area featured spacious tables, an excellent breakfast. Doreen was a... More

I read many of the other reviews and thought that this hotel may be a little different with a different type of feel. Let me start with something positive by saying that the staff working here are very nice and helpful. One problem is that they are rarely there. The hotel is not staffed during the day and at night.... More

After a couple of rough experiences on Booking.com, I gave it a last chance: I was in a hurry to book a hotel for a work meeting, and used the website again, hoping to get at least not too disappointed with the option I would get. Walking distance from the place where I had scheduled my meeting: that's all I... More

Old Style building and old style service ie; genuine and excellent. Manager is fantastic.. waited until our late arrival (23:30) and still greeted us with a genuine welcoming smile....not the 'plastic' type that you get with "Have a nice day" Excellent value for money. I had room No. 2 which overlooked the rear garden...very peaceful Would have preferred it if... More

We enjoyed staying at this hotel. There is lots of history at this hotel, going back to the philosopher Erasmus after which the hotel was named. Rooms were fine, aged but that is the theme of the hotel. The internet was fast, additional charge of 5 euro. Location was excellent - in the city centre and a few minutes walk... More

Former rich people's house, in nice old style and furniture. Walk out of the hotel and you are smack in the center of town near the Gravensteen castle. Friendly reception. Clean and hygienical hotel and rooms, and ample bath and shower. Parking garages at a hundred meters walking distance for eleven euro per 24 hours. Breakfast is somewhat simple, but... More
