we stayed in the hotel one night, unfortunately when it was 35 degrees, which is unusual for Belgium. This hotel is absolutely stunning, an old house, no doubt from a rich family. the interior is rich and special. don't expect a modern hotel, there are no elevators or airco. our room was at the top floor which is not the... The hotel building is probably a century or more old so the hotel has a historic feel to it. The location is just out of the city centre but within a 20 minute walk (or 5 minute tram). Initial impressions are deceptive, it looks a bit run down from the outside and is on an untidy side street (and parking... More

For a hotel a bit different, that is "easy" to get to from the motorway, yet 10mins walk from the centre, this is a hotel that does not have the modern/drab qualities of the main chains, but charm, quirkiness and great customer service. Arrived in the evening (as reception only staffed until 7pm), which needed some advance advice on getting... More

As I moved away from Belgium about 10 years ago, I do visit it on a regular base. On this occasion we had a voucher for a 1 night stay, which we extended with an extra night and an upgrade to a Charme De Luxe Room. The hotel is situated in a beautiful historical building in a nice quiet street.... More

This is a beautiful, historic building with such a feeling of peace and calm in the lobby area, which is really nice to return to. The greeting at reception was very welcoming and informative. Our room was lovely. Yes there were some noises from the old plumbing etc but it didn't disturb us. The breakfast was spectacular and such a... More

Even before I arrived I was welcomed by the e-mail of the owners confirming my parking space and informing me about the amenities of the hotel and possibilities of my stay. I was not disappointed at all. The building is beautifully restored and all the key-elements have been kept in place. The antique collection of the owners is dazzling because... More

A Romantic Valentine's at Charme Hotel Hancelot This hotel was a fabulous Belgic gem of a venue to celebrate a romantic break in Ghent. On arrival to the hotel which is situated in a quiet street approx 20 minute walk from the historic old town, you are greeted with a unexpected decadant foyer. Once through to wooden door you are... I travel regularly for work and I try to find something different rather than staying in the chains, if I can. And so I found this online near my appointment, and I am glad I did. Upon arrival you may have some hesitation at the street it is in, but don't be. When you enter the hotel it looks wonderful,... More

Everything is very good from the welcome to leaving. It is a wonderful old building that has been decorated and furnished very tastefully and authentically. Our room was huge and we also had a dressing room (not used) and large bathroom, it really did feel like being a guest in a grand house of the 19th century. Good breakfast too.... More

Loved it! The exterior belies the beautiful interior! Absolutely beautiful. Spacious bedrooms. Lovely staff. Very close to public transport to historical Centre. For the price...far much better than staying in a "named" establishment
