I was a walk-in booking here, because I don't usually mind cheap and cheerful. The location is great for the price. However, the room is hot on a not particularly hot day, with no air-con, and a window with no mechanism for staying open (I had to prop it with the TV remote). Worse, the bathroom has no working extraction... More

I was a solo middle-aged female traveller staying two nights en route to a conference. The pluses are the location, the price, the good breakfast, and the satisfactory amenities. Minuses were the generally shabby condition of the room (needed a good paint), the temperamental elevator, and the generally casual attitude of the front-of-house staff. The latter weren't rude, but seemed... More

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for one night on the way back from our holiday in Austria. Having only read the reviews after booking our room last minute, (we needed to be in Dunkirk the next day ready to travel back home) I'd be lying if I said I wasn't slightly concerned as to what we'd let... They don't care. And the free wifi is a lie. It's free for the first hour and then you need to pay an extortionate price for a day pass. In 2015 when I can go to entire cities that have free wifi throughout, this is not only dissapointing, it's embarrassing. The rooms themselves look like they are between a renovation,... More

I stayed in this hotel for two nights. The receptionist that greeted me on arrival was excellent, cheerful and welcoming. If he had been on duty for the whole stay I would have rated the hotel more highly. But the guy on the reception the other two days was verging on rude and kept leaving the reception unattended. The rooms... More

Hotel very outdated. Room very very small and no space to walk around. Be careful when booking. I booked a room but didnt realise it came with no bathroo/ shared bathroom but only shared toilet!! Location is good but that is the only good thing. Staff was rather unfriendly. Would not stay there ever again!

The Hotel la Madeleine is situated close to the train station and to the town square. You can't beat the location. As the former reviews state, it could use a little "polishing". If you are not fussy about worn out carpet, it's a great value. There are some nice cafe's out the door, across the street to grab a fresh... More

Very convenient, clean and inexpensive with friendly staff. So what if the rooms are a bit shabby? I go back year after year. Avoid a front room if you think the noise from the square will bother you. The breakfasts are fine and include fresh croissants and breads. You can get BBC World News and Bloomberg on the TV. The... I have booked a room at la Madeleine since it was the only central hotel with availability during a congress. I had an Executive room (4 people - the only type available). It was literally at the ground floor, with large windows on a pretty crowded road and easily accessible by the view of the people passing by. Very noisy,... More
