The hotel itself is ok for the money they charge. The bed/bathroom was clean and the staff very helpful when we had to change our reservation due to a train strike. However the particular part of Brussels it is situated in is scary. Our hotel room was robbed, thankfully anything of any real value was in the safe and not... more

There is something very depressing about the Van Belle Hotel. 'Faded charm' doesn't nail it - faded it certainly is, but it's doubtful it ever was charming. Perhaps it's the seedy backstreet locale, or the mustardy-brown paintwork or the battered and mis-matched furnishings, or maybe the soulless public areas. During a recent European trip this was undoubtedly the worst of... more

I came to Brussels a month ago as I will be studying here until June and I spent my first 5 nights at the city at the Van Belle hotel with my mother and brother. We paid 110 euros per night for a triple room including breakfast. The room ws not very big but I would not describe it as... more

The hotel is inexpensive and you get what you pay for. It's in a reasonable area a short walk from Midi/Zuid station. Rooms are small but comfortable although the bathrooms are cramped. more

A bit shabby, but acceptable, considering the low price. Serves continental breakfast: plenty and some attention to detail. Friendly staff. more

Truly awful

My travel agent found this one because it was supposed to be near the station. It isn't near enough. It's in a slum that is too scary to venture into, the rooms are awful, the furniture is old and chipped, and the facilities are next to none. There is a restaurant, not very good, but at least you don't have... more

Stayed there in may 09 and disgusted at what they call a 3 * star hotel. Rooms were small and smelled of cigarettes. All rooms were very old fashioned and the furniture was from the 60s. Appalling area to be in ,an absolute tip of an area, We had to move 3 times in 4 days as rooms were appalling... more

The location is in a slum area. Really noisy at night. It is unsafe to stroll around there especially at night. Walk to Grand Place is about 30minutes. Not recommended at all and for the price there are many better hotels in much better locations. more

The hotel is a 15min walk from the Gare du Midi station (only recommended during daylight!) and a 20min walk to Grand Place. Adequate rooms and breakfast. Bar area a little tired. Restaurant expensive and little choice. Free shuttle bus will take you into city centre in the evening where food is much better value. Overall a good place for... more

The guy at reception was polite and helpful enough when we arrived, explained their free shuttle service and showed us a few things to do on a map. Very disappointed by the room, for a 3-star-hotel, our room was very small, not so clean (paper in toilet, dust, stains in the shower) and very badly situated, just in front of... more
