We upgraded before arrival to an executive double, I dread to think what our original room would have been like. On arrival, there was no one at reception; even though we arrived well before 9pm. I found a waitress who sourced our key and told us where I room was. The room was very basic, with two small singles pushed... More

Mechelen was a lovely surprise on my recent trip to Belgium - & Hotel den Wolsack exceeded my expectations. A gracious European hotel in a wonderful historic building mere yards from the historic old market square. It was quite literally next to the cathedral. My room had a view of the cathedral tower and the neighboring park, & the carillon... More

I spent just two nights here on business. The hotel is in a great location, right opposite the Cathedral, which was a concern initially due to the amount of chiming that comes out of the almost 100mtr tall tower. Thankfully this seemed to be switched off between 11-00pm and 6-00am. The staff were very friendly, the room I had (33)... More

Hotel is outdated, so no more than 2 starts. In the evening the personnel in reception are the waiters from the restaurant. In the morning, the personnel in the breakfast room (very poor breakfast) is the person in reception… Location is good, and price is also cheaper (not cheap indeed) than other hotels in Mechelen.

Well located for centre of Mechelen. Opposite the cathedral with good public parking under the square. Rooms very average and a bit tired. Staff splendid. Breakfast OK. I wouldn't go out of my way to return, but neither would I object if I was in town again.

This hotel is located in conveniently in the center of town and within walking distance of everything you could want in Mechelen. The staff if very courteous and helpful, and overall things are OK. The Good: Breakfast is straight and to the point. Eggs and Bacon, a little bit of everything, gets the job done. The room has new TV's... More

Nice refurbished and clean 17th century hotel at very moderate prices, close to underground (expensive) parking at the bottom of the St Romboutstower (must see). Beware of the tower bells for the light sleepers. Rooms are hot and open windows atract mosquitos.

Located next door to the towering Mechelen Cathedral this hotel looks as though it was built a hundred years ago - which it probably was. However the proximity to the Cathedral means that light sleepers located on the front of the hotel will be woken on the hour by the clock chiming. Traffic on the cobbled road outside also creates... I've stayed in this hotel a few times on business. The rooms are clean but basic as is the breakfast room. Breakfast is lacking in choice and the coffee is variable. I would not avoid but certainly would not be rushing back.

Ok the double bed was very small but the view at the square was good. The huge rectangular window was great.I liked the breakfast. The hotel is next to the cathedral. Although it is old (it needs immediately refurbishing except the bathroom which was recently renovated) it has class. It brings you to old times...
