A real treat of a hotel and so central - it ticked all of our boxes and some. Lovely friendly greeting, super room, very comfortable bed and the whole of Antwerp on your doorstep. Yes the stairs are a little steep (didn't bother us) but it is an authentic old building. Surrounded by coffee shops, bars and restaurants - and... More

Smack in the middle of town and a 5 minute walk from the Parking, this place is beautifully located. However, no airco, no stairs, and a shower that made a mess. Still, for 130 euros it's pretty good value for money. Staff was friendly, too.

I don't know how this place got such high marks. No elevator. No air conditioning. Right now I am laying on the bed on top of the covers with the 2 windows cranked open and the $20 fan on high. I am hoping I will be able to sleep tonight with the heat and the street noise.

We stayed for one Saturday night at the Matelote and were a bit disappointed. Whilst the hotel is in an excellent location, right in the heart of the city, convenient for sightseeing and shopping, surrounded by restaurants and bars, it is looking decidedly down at heel and in need of some refurbishment. We had a large room on the top... More

I've just returned from a three-night stay in the Hotel Matelote. As a frequent visitor to Antwerp, I am delighted to have found this charming hotel. It could not be better located. It is within a stone's throw of the Cathedral and just around the corner from the Grote Markt. There are an abundance of restaurants, bars, and shops within... More

Plus points. Charming hotel, in very historic building which was been renovated and developed and in superb location, a stone's throw from the cathedral and various restaurants and bars, but at the same time tucked away in a quiet side street. The rooms are also very spacious. Negative points. Hotel is not manned overnight.... and the rooms are in need... More

This is a rather charming hotel in the heart of the old town, close to the cathedral and lots of restaurants on a quiet street. We were up graded to the top floor room which was quirky with a disco ball in the bathroom and very large modern room in a very very old building.. there are lots of steps,... More

Its a small hotel, in the heart of Antwerp, in an old buiding, with perfect taste put into nowadays needs, partly with supberb views. I mention the bed, large, good, cosy, like in heaven.. Breakfast ok, staff helpful.

The location is near perfect, close to restaurants , shops and museums. It is in a little side street so you need to park in a public car park close by (Groenplaats). The entrance is beautiful, giving a modern twist to a very old building. Check-in is rather late, from 15:00 and our room was not ready until 15:45, a... More

So after you have looked at all the neat triangular roofs in Antwerp's squares you might consider staying in the attic of one - that is room 10 of the Matelote, the attic suite complete with ancient roof timbers and the longest living / bedroom / bathroom we have ever stayed in, the length of the building. The hotel is... More
