As mentioned in previous reviews this place is pretty strange and most likely to appeal to a minority who enjoy staying in designer hotels containing glass walled bathrooms / WC, staircases with diagonal bannisters, rooms with solid wooden blinds instead of curtains and a restaurant with bar stools instead of chairs. On top of the weirdness the location is grim... more
Stayed there two nights on a business trip and really liked the design of the place. Staff was helpful and polite. Nights were silent and the bed comfortable. The place is ideal when travelling for business - wouldn't like to stay in the area though when on vacation. On the other hand even on vacation you might just stay one... more
Life is not grand at the Grand Winston. The customer service is woefully lacking. Believe the crew here were sick the day common courtesy was taught in hotel management school. The offense seems greatest among Dutch nationals, who routinely have made this stay for my husband and me almost unbearable. The non-native housekeeping or kitchen staff seem cordial enough. But... more
As all the previous reviewers have indicated the bathroom is a little different. Not only are the walls are 3/4 height glass (although with striped frosting to allow for some privacy), the shower includes optional body height jets - not particularly effective though. Overall the room I had was well apponted (4-star plus) & very comfortable. Service at the front... more
The other reviews of the Grand Winston on this site are quite accurate. I had the "experience" of staying there for almost five weeks as part of a training course. Perhaps it was the duration and lack of alternatives, but the odd decor, design and general running of things eventually becomes comical and dare i say, comfortable. Except for the... more
I recommend this hotel only if attending business in Rijswijk however I do not recommend this hotel when on vacation at all because it is 10 minutes away from The Hague by train, which leaves only every 30 minutes plus the last train back and forth is before midnight. The same goes for the tram. Room service costs 7.5 EUR... more
This has to be one of the oddest hotels in Europe. You could forgive them if it was a refurb, but it was a brand new build and why on earth it was designed like this is anyone's guess. The rooms are well described previously. The glass bathroom is just downright silly, and offers nil privacy with a partner. There... more
We knew nothing about this hotel - we didn't choose to stay there - we got moved there from the Corona Hotel in the centre of The Hague (see separate review). Would we stay there again? Only if they redesign the bathrooms... The room was fine (apart from the bathroom). The staff were wonderful. We liked the food (and service... more
The Grand Winston is a beautiful and well equipped hotel. It does have one big problem though and that's the design they've chosen for bathrooms. First of all, you should know that it's not in the best possible location. It's in the middle of a large modern industrial estate in the Hague suburb of Rijswijk (pronounced ryes-vike). It's surrounded by... more
