We went to Leiden because our son, who was on vacation, had a major heart attack and had to have bypass surgery. In our haste to make arrangements we inadvertently booked for the day before we were to arrive. We notified the hotel within 2 days prior to arriving by email because no one answered the phone. The manager informed... more

This hotel is supposed to be a 4* hotel. There is no reception or management presence after 9pm each evening so if you arrive after this time you can not get in. Some hotel booking agencies say 10pm but believe me its 9pm sharp. There is no phone number to contact the management and if you ring the hotel as... more

Only a couple of blocks from the train station. Only nine rooms, but they have an elevator. The rooms are smallish, but have a tub, safe, chairs and table, and coffee/tea setup (we had a Superior room -- the largest that's not a suite). Wifi was expensive, and breakfast is much cheaper and better had at the train station or... more

We thought this was a pretty mainstream hotel (like a Best Western in the U.S.) but when we got there it was clear that this was a small, locally operated hotel that didn't provide 24 hour service. They were waiting for us to arrive. We thought we were getting a queen sized bed, but we got two twins. It was... more

We stayed in the Marienpol for three nights for a total of over €600. The hotel looked good on the web but it turned out to be a great disappointment. We stayed in the apartment that came with the kitchen, but were advised that we needed to pay an additional €12.5/day to use the stove. You were not allowed to... more

I would consider this hotel more of a large B&B than a proper hotel. It was very clean and the room was nicely docorated and a good size. All the staff were very friendly and checking in was very quick. Its in a good location with only a 5min walk to the pubs and resturants and only a couple of... more

We stayed in the Marianiopol Hotel in Leiden while visiting the bulb fields we found it to be very medioca, breakfast was served in the room which we did not like. and the room was sixtys style. Not worth four stars. On the positive side it was clean and the bed comfortable. more

On August 13 and 14, 2006, a friend and I spent two wonderful and relaxing nights in the Marienpoel Hotel. It is perfectly situated in a quiet, residential neighborhood just 200 yards from Leiden's Central Station. With a 5 to 10 minute walk, one can be in the historical center of Leiden, a charming Dutch town with scenic canals, excellent... more

Good hotel, great location, 1/2 block from central station, walking distance to center of town, convenient to bulbfields and Keukenhof Gardens. Comfortable well equipped room and bath, elevator, on-site paking, tasty and filling breakfast served in the room when you specify. Very efficient and courteous staff. Good value at 137 Euros. more

I have stayed at the lovely Marienpoel three times now and plan to return again in January. It is convenient to the train and busses, and an easy walk to the heart of Leiden. This place is immaculate and very well-appointed with comfortable beds and very modern bathrooms. There are only 9 rooms, all different, 3 with kitchens. The owner... more
