I really don't have anything negative to write about this hotel - very good and friendly service, very nice old historic settings combined with quiet very modern technology rooms. The open-air bar is very nice when the weather allows for sitting out. The location is perfect with the Dom Tower of Utrecht just a 5-10 minute walk away. Utrecht itself... More

This hotel is billed as a five star and hits those notes with a Michelin star restaurant, beautiful grounds, attentive staff, 24 hour room service and turn down service. However, the rooms are dated. I stayed in a large room in the main building (where the reception is), which was offered to me for a nominal 10€ / night and... More

I was traveling for a business trip that required my first stay and visit to Utrecht. As a result, I had zero expectations since I had not done any pre-trip planning. However, I was pleasantly surprised by both Utrecht and The Grand Hotel Karl V. As I have said before, staff and service are often under-appreciated aspects of a hotel... More

Historic hotel in the center of Utrecht (the building dates back to 1348), within walking distance of the main train station. The friendly staff upgraded me to a deluxe room that was stunning. Free Wifi, delicious breakfast.

We stayed one night at Grand Hotel Karel V at the end of a 5-day bike trip in the Netherlands. After staying in average-quality hotels for most of the trip, ending here was perfect. Karel V is a refined, elegant hotel just blocks from the Dom tower that offers a serene, quiet enclosed compound that is a welcome respite from... More

Booked through booking.com for a last minute weekend trip with another couple. Since it was a last minute booking we had quite a discount, so doable. Lovely property! Our room was fantastic - ground floor in the building with the spa...walk out to terrace. The friends were unfortunately assigned to a room directly next to the gate for the parking... More

We spent two comfortable nights at this well known hotel. Delicious buffet breakfast in an elegant dining room with an excellent selection of hot dishes in addition to the continental offering of cold meats and cheeses. Quality bedding and a luxurious bed although the decor of our room was a little 'dated'. We are so looking forward to staying here... More

We only stayed here for 1 night but our room was excellent, very large and well equipped. The hotel grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The hotel itself is very well situated for the town centre. The only negative aspect of this hotel I found was the quality of the breakfast it was not up to a five star hotel!

I stayed at the Karel V for 2 nights in an Empire room in the Napoleonic wing (room 202). The room was very big with a double basin in the bathroom, separate shower cubicle, and bath. The toilet was in a separate room which was a nice touch. It was very clean and nicely furnished, although quite old fashioned (dark... More

Spent a night here on a business trip. Our room was spacious. Check-in service is efficient. We enjoyed lunch at the bistro, food was excellent despite slow service and the orders getting mixed up. Property features large open spaces, with lush gardens and gravel walkways (foot paths would have been nice). Property is obviously historic, and looked to have a... More
