As part of a mini tour of The Netherlands my friend and I checked into a twin room at the Apollo Hotel. Centrally located, it was easy to find from the train station. This hotel is quite basic and rather dingy. The guy on reception who checked us in was lovely although, unlike other hotels in the Netherlands, we weren't... More

The Apollo, formerly hotel Smith, (The name is still on top) is a very centrally / conveniently located hotel in the heart of Utrecht. They have clearly upgraded the place and in the main successfully but it will always remain an old building with new fittings which do not always match. The sliding door to the not originally fitted en-suite... More

Arriving by train you pass through a modern shopping centre and a market square to get here. Round corner from hotel is older part of town with lots of restaurants and lively bars. Hotel is clean and practical. We had breakfast elsewhere. Recommend Utrecht as central to Holland.

We stayed in room 801 which has a window to the back yard and is right next to the elevator. I woke up constantly during the night because of two things: every time someone used the elevator (or walked through a nearby door) there was a loud bang. And every 15 minutes during the whole night a nearby church played... More

The location of the Apollo Hotel is ideal in Utrecht - especially when coming by train. Requests for service (additional pillows, replacement of a noisy fan, etc.) were handled in a friendly and prompt way. The breakfast buffet was very good, combining more typically American foods (eggs, etc.) and more usual European foods (cold cuts, etc.). Aside from being too... More

Booked the apollo, as a result of a few searches. Position is perfect in Utrecht, walking distance to probably 200 eateries and yards from the grand canal. The hotel is clean, and for Holland very normal. The underground transfer carpet was a little tired , but it all worked for me.

Ah yes, the Apollo Hotel in Utrecht. Made my reservation online, got my confirmation and a map how to get to the hotel but no hint that the hotel is in a pedestrian zone and the next parking garage a half a mile away. Not easy to maneuver with luggage. The reception is on the second floor and so is... More

Easy access to the railway station via the shopping centre. Access via steps to small lobby. Minuscule lift. Reasonably well appointed rooms with tea/coffee making facilities. The size of the sink presents a challenge when filling the kettle. Ventilation an issue - it is possible to open the single glazed windows but this gives issues with noise, particularly with rooms... The location is great, as it is close both to the central station and the center of the city. Room was clean and calm (as we asked) but poorly decorated. Service was friendly. Overall not bad if it wasn't for the price, too expensive for what it is.

This would have been rated good had we had the bedroom we were given on the second night. This was advertised as a 4star superior room. Oh no it was not. I could just get through the gap between the end of the bed and the desk and chair but had to sidle pass the bed and the wall to... More
