A very good basic, safe and clean hostel. Staff were friendly, rooms were clean and comfortable. Communal bathrooms were acceptable! Be warned that this hostel has loads of stairs!! Location was ok for, as we are used to using public transport. Hostel is not within walking distance of main tourist attractions.

Okay, it's not THAT terrible, but for the amount we paid it was not worth it. SUPER steep staircases, unfriendly staff members, decent rooms, inconvenient location! It's a semi-decent place, but don't do it if you don't have to. One night was enough to turn me off.

Staying still in hotel, great place not too far from Amsterdams city centre. Clean place with cool staff. And of course here is hot shower 24/7 and big screen in reception which actually very nice place to chill out. There's a lot of good places to get goog food and actually whatever you need. I'll definitely come here back again!!!

This people didn't know what the hell they where doing. They literally look like chickens running around with their heads cut off. They completely ignored us and I really do think they did it because we where all women. When they finally gave us some attention they said our room wasn't ready, so we asked to leave our bags there... More

This hostel is not a good deal! First, we had to wait 2 hours to have our room. After 2 hours the guy told us that the room we booked (8 bedroom) was not free so we have to sleep separately or the some matress on the floor... But we paid for the 8 bedroom... The bathroom is the worst... More

Arriving at the hotel was pretty easy and simple, the chap at the desk was helpful and nice, but that's where the plesantries finish. On the second night of our stay we were awaken too what we believe too be 5 turkish or middle eastern men demanding we pay for room damage, smoking in the room and for assaulting and scarying... The cantankerous old goat at the desk honestly turned a good weekend into a bad one. This guy would have trouble using the toilet on his own never mind running a hostel. It took him 25-30 minutes to type three names and addresses in the computer. I honestly thought he was winding us up at one stage. He insisted that... More

We arrived at the Amigo Hotel and had to leave and go stay somewhere else. Upon first arriving you are greeted by some stairs that are literally vertical like a ladder (thank goodness we left our luggage at the train station) - all the stairs are like this and the hotel has many floors. We are fairly young (30's) and... More

The location of the hotel is nice; accross Artis and near public transport. But the staff was not friendly, came knocking on our door during the night (???) and was not willing to give us towels. The room was dirty and there were holes in the curtains. The television did not work. The shower was so dirty that we didn't... More

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighborhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
