I have stayed in the Monk Hotel Apartments for the second time now. It has a great location in the Niumarket area and Red Light District. Very close to China town also. The apartment was clean and had 4 beds in it (1 Bedroom Apartment "C"). The apartment I stayed at had 1 Bathroom and a Seperate shower room, a... More

We spent 4 days in an apartment in this block and we were all thoroughly impressed. The apartment was clean, tidy and very well apportioned. We had loads of space to eat, relax and sleep. The beds were very comfortable; if you want a cuddle you'll need to push two beds together. The staff are all really friendly and the... More

This was my first trip to Amsterdam and I must say that I am very impressed. Monk Apartment's was recommended by a friend who stayed here during his past trips. We took the 4 bed room apartment and boy was it spacious and nicely decorated! Even though there were only 4 of us, the place could fit up to 8... More

14 of us stayed here for 3 nights in April as part of a stag do. The apartments were perfect for a large group. The beds aren't great, but it was clean and spacious and the locations was perfect. Henk was very helpful.

I stayed there with my wife and kid. The place was very clean and the staff was very helpful. We arrived early in the morning and were able to check-in early as there were no guests in the apartment. The location is close to the many touristic places. It is 5 minutes walk to the Dam Square. There are restaurants... More

Great location, clean, spacious - everything you need and want is on your doorstep. Supermarket, bars, coffee shops etc. Only a 10 minute walk to Central Station. Would consider staying here again and would recommend to others. Thanks Henk

I've been to the Netherlands (and Amsterdam) pretty frequently and I like to stay at the Monk. The location is pretty central to everything that you want to see - shops, "the nightlife" if you want to tram up to other areas of the city or hit Centraal station to move around the country. Some of my favorite places to... More

Monk Apartments provides a warm comfortable safe haven in the centre of Amsterdam. A group of us visits Amsterdam every year for the IBC trade show and after a couple of bad places we happened across the Monk Apartments. Since then we have been staying with Monk Apartments for over 10 years now. The facilities are clean, spacious and convenient.... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
