Between the propped open doors into private sleeping spaces and the beaten, dingy sign advertising "Hour Rooms," The Damrak Inn is a far cry from a classy establishment. That being said, the rooms are serviceable, the staff are (begrudgingly) helpful and the location is impossible to beat, which saves it from a one star review in my book.

The only good thing about this hostel was its location. Other than that, the employees, the manager, the cleanliness was absolutely appalling. The beds were infested with bed bugs, my friend was bitten over 20 times (face, stomach, arms, legs, etc.). We had to buy a new suitcase because the bugs made their way inside, wash and dry our clothes/backpacks to... More

Read the reviews before we got there and thought it wouldn't be that bad. When we got there we were greeted by a very sketchy person who was acting as if he was high at the time of checking us in. We went up to the room and saw that we were on the side where all the trams run... More

4 of us stayed here and the hotel was more then ideal for are needs. It's located in the centre of Amsterdam so everything is only a short walk away. The room was basic but that's all we needed. It was clean on arrival and sheets and towels were changed everyday when we went out. The staff are helpful and... More

Avoid this hotel. 6 of us stayed here while we were visiting Amsterdam. This hotel is dirty and has a putrid smell. The beds are tiny and the linen is stained and filthy. The bathroom is full of dirt and you feel dirty after you take a shower! The staff are rude and annoying, they woke us up by banging... More

In the centre of the city, paying for the location of this hotel as centre of everything. I found it very standard, with very friendly staff and had everything I needed. Little and cosy rooms. Food just down stairs. The bad reviews are just because its not luxury.

Wanting to join other friends in Amsterdam last week for 4 nights needing a single room - in central part of the city -with Keukenhof Tulip festival in full swing and Kings Day immanent - seemed impossible, but finally managed it at this hotel- great position and reasonable price. But would like to draw attention to ,if like me,room situated... More

I don't think people realize that they are paying for the location of this hotel. I found it very standard, very friendly staff, always offering tea and coffee, very helpful, the room was clean. The water in the shower was kind of hard to control, would always be too cold or too hot but otherwise it was great! The wifi... More

Whilst the location is very convenient for just about everything, the room we stayed in was very small and as the windows were poor quality, you hear literally everything going on in the street below - this includes trams, very loud people, traffic, construction of nearby buildings/roads, and the bells from the tower opposite which rang for nearly 5 continuous... Staying in Centrum

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
