This is a two-star budget hotel; it's not going to be particularly pretty. Two different tram lines stop in front, and there are convenient places to eat nearby. The maintenance isn't quite up to standards, and there are lots of features to Dutch buildings that are not well understood by Americans (like steep stairwells and narrow rooms). Carpeting was not... If you need a place to crash and take a shower. Thats OK, shower was clean and bed too. Wifi did not work on my room (4th floor). But got another one after asking. That was great. Dont go there for luxury.

I read the Tripadvisor reviews after booking this place and admit I was slightly worried. Granted, the rooms are functional at best and could be a bit cleaner, but you get what you pay for. It is located right beside a tram stop that runs directly to the city, and the zoo is just across the road. As for "rude"... More

Why some businesses think that they will get richer if they keep peoples money even when they call in advance to amend a booking made by mistake? It's just shocking ,stupid and greedy. The owner has no human sense or respect for his clients . After I have looked on the review pictures I now understand why this hotel is... More

I booked this accommodation and prepaid it however it was a mistake on my behalf and 3 days after booking I called for a refund thinking it would obviously be ok with it being over a week until my reservation and with Gay Pride being on the hotel were all pretty much full anyway so it would have no problem... I too experienced some of what the negative reviews stated. The room and bathroom were small. Almost painfully small for my wife and me. The very small, very old TV never had a signal, not that I was there to watch TV, but it would have been nice to watch something when we got in. I had no issues from... More

I thought I had booked a bargain as this hotel is shown as a 3 star on booking site , beware it barely makes a 1 star ! We did not stay , once we had viewed the room which confirmed our first impressions , shabby and dirty ! the outside of this shabby hotel is rundown and covered it... More

The hotel is a good value for money. The hotel situated 5 minutes walk from Amsterdam station and was very easy to find. We were required to pay there and not up front. The room was small but comfortable with two single beds. We had big windows facing the main street which was very nice. The room has heating and... More

Our arrival here rang several alarm bells immediately, 1) badly stained carpet in reception 2) a large notice at eye-level saying 'no refunds' 3) a surly, unfriendly, unhelpful, rude (almost hostile) young man behind the desk (the evening of Saturday 11th April to be precise). Note: we had to pay in advance rather than on checking out - it was... More

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighborhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
