Stayed 3 x nights, had a single ( queen sized bed ), clean & cosy, at side, view of back gardens quiet enough, although it was a cold weekend in Amsterdam, room was ok, bit chilly in the night, breakfast simple, coffee / bread / ham / cheese / juice, briefly saw other guests in passing, as they finished their... Just returned from a 3 day break at the Golden Bear and would say that I would give it a bit of a so so rating really. Good things - location makes walking to all major points of interests a maximum of a twenty minute walk away, the staff who are friendly enough. So so things - room (top floor... More

Overall, the hotel was fine. We stayed there for 4 nights. It is in a good, central location for walking to most of the major attractions within 10 to 20 minutes. We had one of the few rooms with a bath, on the top floor, all the way up the winding stair, which was essentially just a ladder with carpeting.... More

Ive been to this "Hotel now twice in the last 5 years. Its a nice place but has recently gotten a little expensive for it class. It classes itself as a hotel but seems a bit more of a well maintained B&B. Upon arriving at Amsterdam at the centraal Station you can take a tram numbers 1,2 or 5 and... More

Amsterdam is one of my favorite cities, but this is probably my least favorite hotels I've ever stayed in. The spiral staircase with narrow steps make it dangerous to even get your luggage up to your room, the staff seems ambivalent, and I had numerous emails to reconfirm the rate which was originally promised to me. However, my LEAST favorite... More

OK, so here are my thoughts about the Golden Bear. First, we're going to talk about the stairs. Now I know this is Amsterdam and the dwellings are thin and crowded together but, going up and down those stairs gave me nightmares. Very, very steep and the "stairs" are not even as wide as your foot. Getting the picture? I... More

I cut this place a lot of slack when I booked, after reading reviews by others. It made sense to me: An old building in Amsterdam would be very different from a Holiday Inn style hotel in North America and perhaps the reviewers had been too demanding. But when I got to the Golden Bear, I wanted to have my... More

We had Room 17, a double, at the top of the building. It was clean but on the day of arrival and the following night we were disturbed by the vibration of loud dance type music permeating through from the apartment that was in the adjoining building. We mentioned it to the guy on reception who offered a twin bedded... More

The other reviews are right on. The hotel is clean, the staff is very dutch (efficent and helpful when asked). Rooms are clean, beds very comfortable and the location is perfect - Central to everything. The price was super. I have no complaints what so ever. Yes, the hotel has really steep stairs. But that is Amsterdam. I don't need... More
