We checked into a foul-smelling, humid room in the basement of the hotel and the bathroom was FILTHY! The room was VERY HOT and because it was on ground level the windows were barred shut. We reported this and were told they could downgrade us to a basic room if we wanted to move... We didn't want to be in... More

The ambiance was so different than anywhere we have every stayed. The halls and rooms were so different than your modern hotel, it was amazing. We explored the halls and public rooms one evening, every where there was rooms with stained glass windows, we found a room that had the old windows for the merchants making payments. Truly an amazing... More

Great location very close to Central Station (but not too close to be noisy). We thought of taking the train in from the airport and then walking to the hotel, but were glad we decided against that considering our bulky luggage. The hotel has lots of character and charm. Our room was a little on the loud side, facing the... More

This is not a 5 star hotel, neither the facilities nor the front of house service and staff are up to this standard. I stayed there for 4 nights having pre-paid. I arrived to check in (it was hard to find the check in counter as it's located in a separate room, not in the lobby). I was asked to... More

We loved his hotel! Found it a bit strange finding our way around he hotel. But the rooms were nice. Beds very comfortable. Free mini bar a nice touch, but we were too busy out and about to really enjoy it. Staff were helpful and accommodating. Would stay here again.

This is our second stay at this hotel and we really like it because it's walking distance to the main train station and trolly system. It's nice to have a high quality hotel in such a nice place. You could wonder the streets of Amsterdam for weeks and always see different things. Very romantic city, especially the canals.

The hotel is old world Amsterdam. If you stay here take the time to learn the history of the building. The rooms are fully renovated and are beautiful and spacious. The staff can't do enough for you. We also love the location of the hotel.

Dear wendyz, Thank you very much for writing such an amazing review, which made the entire Amrâth team, and yours truly extremely proud! We are equally proud to work in such a unique and historic building. The Shipping House was originally build in 1916 commissioned by 6 shipping companies to set up a joint head office in Amsterdam to consolidate... More

The hotel itself is an impressive structure, with its amazing architecture and beautiful windows. It is in a central location near central station and a short walk to tourist sites such as the red light district and dam square. Very friendly and polite hotel staff, couldn't do enough to help us and give us additional information about the hotel, directions... More

The service in general was ok...but for a 5 star hotel they had a few no go's! For instance they never filled up the water tanks in the gym and the wellness area. Furthermore two of my shirts disappeared after the room service. And nobody of the employees felt responsible for it. Nobody! That's really bad! I guess they were... More

Staying in Centrum

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
