This is a budget hotel and it is exactly that. The staff are very friendly and helpful, rooms are clean but basic (as you would expect); the showers have the best hot water I've had in any hotel! Location very central and excellent.

The hotel is in the center of Amsterdam so it's perfect to go around the shops museums food and bars The rooms are ok You only take this hotel if you don't care about the place where you sleep. The stairs a quiet hard if you are drunk ;) So if you come with friends it's perfect

Although the location was great, right in the red light distract, this place was one of 3 locations we stayed on our 8 day stay in Amsterdam, and was definitely the least favourite, incredibly steep stairs, stinks of smoke. But if your looking for someplace just to crash your head after partying this place is VERY central to do so.... More

Hotel Ben certainly can't be described as a luxury hotel but for the price you should know that already. The room was bare but clean, the bathroom facilities were simple but working and we had no complaints regarding the staff over our four night stay. The hotel itself is a short walk from the train station and within the red... More

For the budget prices we paid and the excellent location would def stay again, 8 of us went and were able to get 2 quad rooms next to each other, customer service was good and had no problems during our short stay, rooms were average but u can understand that for the price, no free wi fi but available at... What you give is what you get. The stairs are not as steep as the other hostels in the area. The safety deposit box is in the front office so unsafe and housekeeping is nonexistent. The guys at reception need to buzz you in everytime you go in or out but theyre cool and knowledgeable about the area. Got some... More

The only thing that is good in this hotel is the location. In this hotel you must use the stairways because the hotel has no elevator. The desk staff is friendly and will advise you as much as possible. This is a one star hotel and that says enough...

Great location, friendly staff. People morning about the stairs need to realise a lot of the buildings in Amsterdam have steep stair cases due to the age and unique of the buildings. 2minute walk to the train station. Happy with my stay you get what you pay for

Cheap hotel, situated in an area where you can find almost anything you would like to in the city, the desk staff were mostly friendly and helpful, especially when it came to letting use leave our bags in there office between checkout and our return flight home. However, the cheap price shows. The room is minimal which was all we... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
