i have just returned from 2 weeks stay at the veteran ,i must say i was a little bit worried after reading some of the reviews, sure the building is a little drab ,and the stairs are a killer but they are all like that in amsterdam ,it is the best value for money in amsterdam,on opening our door we were... more

We stayed in this hotel because of the price, and boy did we get more then we bargained for (three nights). The stairs to the rooms are incredibly steep and pratically vertical; so getting our luggage to our third floor room (room #7) was a feat. ONE bathroom for 7 rooms, no ventilation; extremely moldy, smelly and scary. But to... more

We booked The Veteran over the phone a month in advance of New Year 2006/7. Leaving it that late we could not be too choosey and were grateful for what we were offered - especially once we saw the hotel's website. However, it took a number of emails to confirm the booking - and on arrival we could see why...the... more

Considering this was the only hotel in central Amsterdam with availability over New Year's weekend even several months in advance, we were glad to get the booking. Any other time it probably would have been fine especially for the price which was about 146 euros ($194) per night for a room (with private bathroom) that slept 6 (one queen bed... more

I spent 2 nights at this hotel, the owner aki ye is friendly, the room i had was probably the most ugly of the hotel (in the basement-very ugly decoration with teddy bears paintings, pink walls) but the price is fair, and the location Rembrantplein is very near the center. more

We were 4 friends that stayed in a room for 5 (1 bunk bed, 1 single bed and 1 double bed) for 2 nights. It cost us 27.5 euros each per night. This is not much more then we would've payed in a hostel, but here we got an actual hotel - with new towels every day, good and clean... more

My husband and I spent one night at this hotel. We had originally reserved a room at the Thorbecke hotel but when we arrived at midnight they didn't have any rooms left and we were sent to The Veteran Hotel. It was 59 Euro for a Saturday night, 5% more if charged to a credit card. Our room was just... more

My husband & I stayed at the Veteran for 8 days/7 nights in April 2005. This was our first European trip and we had to do it on a budget, our only must-haves were a clean room, private bath and a location close to city center. We didn't have much expectations, but we did do some research before picking this... more

We stayed in the Hotel The Veteran 3 nights, we had a room in second floor, with shared bath, always perfectly clean, and super super view of the Canal, the room is shiny and big, number 3, the location is perfect and most of all the couple that attends you are very very polite and nice. more
