Coming from America and seeing Amsterdam for the first time, this hotel wasnt bad at all! We were two college kids coming for the expirience of Amsterdam .... not to expirience the Thorbecke! It was a great place to crash after an all nighter in Amsterdam. Granted .... it's not the Ritz Carlton, but it is a cheap hotel in... more

I'm sitting here at 2:50 am and still cant to sleep due to the noisy music from (empty) night club downstairs. The Indonesian guy on reception with poor english says nothing can be done, I have to leave for an early flight and am considering napping at Schipol instead. Room is VERY basic, dangerous wiring, plg falling off wall, one... more

I recently spent 3 days surrounding Queensday in Amsterdam and had an Okay experience at the Thorbecke. The other negative reviews are not all wrong but perhaps a little over zealous in their criticism. The stairs were extremely steep, but there are railings all the way up and it is manageable if you do not have disabilities. There are shared... more

After reading the other reviews I must admit I was a bit sceptical but upon arrival at the hotel I was pleasantly surprised. The room was generally clean, nothing fantastic but basic and reasonably comfortable. It is in an excellent location but one draw back in a busy bar underneath. We stayed on the first floor so noise wasnt too... more

The worst hotel i have ever encountered in my life. The sneaky receptionist asked for €50 as a deposit then refused to give it back on leaving. We had a third person staying so i asked for an extra bed - she claimed she did not understand english and would not discuss. On checking out she said there was a... more

Where do I start? The entrance: you are greeted by a very steep staircase and the first thing we were asked was to pay upfront!!! We paid almost €300 for 2 nights: the worst value for money in my entire life... To get to our room there were two floors of even steeper staircases: luckily my husband was there, because... more

We found this hotel to be the worst experience ever. They demanded we pay up front for all four nights,so we really didn't know what we were getting into until we saw our first room. It was horrible with mouse droppings every where and very dirty looking bed linens. My brother and I slept in our clothes with towels over... more

This hotel is a disgrace.Upon arrival you could see it was dirty, dull, and very unplesant to spend a holiday in.Our room was no more than an attic, the wardrobe had no doors on it,the carpet was very old and dirty, our only window was a skylight with ripped curtans, the washbasin had broken tiles,we had no room service for three days, but worst of all... more

Just returned from a 4 night stay at the Thorbeke hotel. Worst hotel we have ever had the displeasure of staying at Upon entry walking up what felt like Mount everest on an extremely dirty carpet gave us a glipse of things to come. Staying in an allegedly non-smoking room we were greeted with the stench of stale smoke and... more
