The accommodations, location and host were perfect for our time in Amsterdam. Our host, Peter, loves what he does and helps in any way possible (e.g., transportation, touring and restaurant tips, outfitting the guest rooms with every conceivable thing we could need, etc.). We stayed in a lovely, immaculately clean room on the top floor. The bed was so comfortable--it... More

Third time at this amazing B&B proved once again to be outstanding. This time I took someone who had never stayed here before. He was also enthralled with the B&B, especially listening to Peter tell about his experiences over the years. For my friend, the location was perfect especially since it was so close to a major bookstore! Suggestions of... More

Just back from a family visit to Amsterdam staying at Boogard's. The accommodation, location, and suggestions from Peter were all perfect. Having taken all three rooms for the family, I can also confirm that they are all as perfect as each other, so don't worry about choosing a best one, as they are all really good. We could not imagine... More

My husband and I spent 5 days at Boogaard's Bed and Breakfast in early January 2016 and pinched ourselves every day that we were so lucky to find this gem of a B&B just minutes from Dam Square, and walking distance to every other neighborhood, destination and landmark in Amsterdam. Peter, the owner, is such a special man! With a... More

Very comfortable, nicely decorated (recently renovated?), centrally located B&B in Amsterdam. Helpful, thoughtful owners. As others have commented, the beds are so very comfortable! We stayed in the top floor room and although the steps are a bit steep, we had no problem getting our luggage up and down the stairs. This room also has a nice roof top patio.... More

Excellent host, good tips on Amsterdam sites for touring and dining, perfect location. Room was well sized, clean and comfortable. Staff, including owner, Peter, were very nice, and quite accommodating to our needs and questions right down to the bottle of Port wine for a night's sleep. Peter installed an excellent Boogaard's Concierge app on my smart phone which was... More

This is a first class BNB, great location, really nice room, attentive but not intrusive owner. What's not to like? Amsterdam itself has some very quirky parts, that may not be everyone taste. This particular place will be. What I did not know was how Christmas is not so intense compared to the rest of Europe, still there but nowhere... More

For the most part I can only say good things about this accommodation. The bed was extremely comfortable with English speaking tv stations, tea and coffee making facilities and lots of little touches. Slippers and lots of amenities in the bathroom. A few too many ornaments and pillows but overall a lovely place. Whilst I did know it was on... More

We loved our stay and we loved Peter. What a terrific host. I felt like I was staying with a friend. This B&B is beautifully and luxuriously appointed, the location is terrifically convenient to everything and Peter bends over backwards to ensure that you love your stay and his city. Follow his advice, you will be happy that you did?

Peter, the owner and host, is a consummate B&B owner - the kind you hope to meet on your travels! He spent over 30 minutes at check-in making sure we had the lay of the land, from marking spots on the map to recommending restaurants. He did not steer us wrong! After trying the first lunch spot he recommended, we... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
