Our first time in Amsterdam and we were lucky to find this little gem. Must be the quirkiest Hotel/Guest house in which we have stayed. Our host, Cynthia, goes the extra mile to make sure your stay will be memorable and filled with local knowledge and advice depending on the purpose of your visit. We stayed in the loft and... More

Just killing time at Schipol on way home from a wonderful stay at the excellent Boutique B and B that is The Vanguard. The Vanguard is in a great location, being very central with easy tram access from the Central Station and convenient to all attractions, however the owner Cynthia is a wonderful guide to the city and will lead... Well, I'm not sure I'd have chosen the staircase in my own home but everything else about The Vanguard was just what it says on the tin, a real Amsterdam home with the welcoming Cynthia who really makes your trip extra special. We had the loft room and with my fear of falling, probably wasn't the wisest choice but we... More

I stayed in the Loft Room and loved everything about it. The wonderful design, the warm lighting, the whimsical loft and even the balcony. The location is wonderful and offers picturesque canal views, plus easy access to Amsterdam attractions. Cynthia, the proprietor, has a beautiful spirit and is a pleasure to work with. She was so accommodating with my late... More

We spent 4 nights at The Vanguard last week and what a fantastic experience! Not only was the room special, beautifully designed, with lots of original features, but Cynthia herself was a highlight. The house is a classic Amsterdam town house, full of history and perfectly situated on Herengracht. We went to three museums: the Amsterdam Museum (history of the... More

We stayed in the Vanguard for 5 days in July this year. Cynthia, our hostess, was warm, welcoming and couldn't do more to make our holiday a wonderful experience. Our room (actually, a suite of rooms) was beautifully decorated - comfortable bed and an adjoining sitting area with canal view. Bath/shower room was modern and spotless! The breakfasts were something... More

I stayed at Cynthia's B&B a week ago for one night while on a business trip to Amsterdam. All the hotels in the area were either booked or too expensive so I opted for a B&B experience... I could not have chosen better. It all starts from the host, Cynthia. She is the most gracious, friendly and welcoming person you... More

What a wonderful guesthouse Cynthia has! It is the best ever and I felt like I was truly in a home. Cynthia made me feel welcome even before I arrived with e-mails and traveling advice. Her place is very tastefully and beautifully decorated. I stayed in the Loft and even though it was more than a 4-story climb up to... More

This delightful, traditional townhouse is ideally located within walking distance of the main attractions. Generous-sized room, large, airy windows, comfortable bed and separate seating area overlooking two intersecting canals. Modern fitted bathroom with walk-in shower, twin basins and large separate bath. Breakfasts were a highlight with ample selections, Cynthia's tasty homemade pancakes and supplemented with her insightful guidance on the... More

My teenage son and I travelled to Amsterdam in June and had a wonderful time staying at The Vanguard. The location was fantastic, the decor beautiful but still cozy, and the breakfast was fantastic with lots of options. We are often fairly solo travelers so having breakfast with other guests around a large table was actually a really nice change... More
