We stayed at Maison Rika over a wet and dreary weekend in Amsterdam in November. Tucked up in our room ('The View'), with a complementary bag of popcorn and an amazing oreo cookie, looking over the Herengracht canal, I couldn't help but feel extremely smug. If you want to pretend you live in one of the most beautiful areas of... More

We stayed for 3 nights in the first floor room at Maison Rika. It's like staying in your own boutique apartment - small but very nicely fitted out. Very friendly owners. Brilliant location in the heart of the 9 streets...walking distance to everywhere nice. Lovely coffee shops nearby for breakfast. A treat all round.

My friend saw a review of this place in monocle and recommended it. This gives you a hint of what it is like. Stylish, inviting and uber cool. The good: The rooms are beautiful. Big, good looking furniture, black painted wooden floors, exposed wooden vaulted ceiling, windows on 2 corners with canal views. Amsterdam is expensive for accommodation so €200... More

Ever since I spent some of my studies in Amsterdam I have nurtured the dream of returning to stay in this magic city for good. In my dream not much is the same as during the student years. Well, Amsterdam is. But my own situation is a personal passion-creativity bubble by a canal. Staying at Rika places me right in... More

Staying in Canal Ring (Grachtengordel)

Neighborhood Profile
Canal Ring (Grachtengordel)
This UNESCO World Heritage Site is as historically significant as it is perennially popular. Whether you’re a history buff, architecture enthusiast, shutterbug, or fashionista, odds are you’ll find the Amsterdam you're looking for while roaming around the Grachtengordel (Canal Ring). A brilliant place to get lost in a moody meander and a key component to any sightseeing trip to Amsterdam, this area's major draws include the Anne Frank House, the Bloemenmarkt floating flower market, an enviable assortment of independent boutiques along De Negen Straatjes, and of course all of Grachtengordel’s lovely canals and bridges.
