I stayed here with my girlfriend for 3 nights. We had never been to Amsterdam and wanted to stay close to the centre to have everything within walking distance. Everything truly was within walking distance. We were on a budget as this was the first stop on a 3 week trip. We read many reviews before deciding on this hotel.... More

Two (girl) travelling friends, we were warmly welcomed at the hotel -located over an old school wooden bar, epic!- where we spent 5 nights. Admittance only allowed if you showed your hotel card, plus the receptionist (aka the bartender) is there 24/7 so there is always a face control, which made us feel very safe! Never mind the shared bathrooms/showers,... More

Spent 3 nights here and couldn't fault it, room was tidy and clean, towels changed everyday and shower gel replaced when empty. All the staff were friendly and helpful and the restaurant below the hotel was superb also. Little bit of noise on a night but expected that being in the Red Light District so no complaints from that. The... More

Convenience to everything, wifi was good. The staff were welcoming and friendly, including breakfast was great. Its a bit expensive for a one star hotel but location and staff were amazing. I had a nice time there. I can recommend this hotel for young people and people who wants to be in the heart of Amsterdam.

This one star hotel, but a great location. Great view from front rooms, overlooking a canal. Bar open 24/7. Friendly, helpful staff. Free breakfast in nice little restaurant below. Stairways to the rooms are killers. One guest described them to me as climbing Everest, but doable. I'm 77 now and have stayed here for the last five summers. Not good... More

Perfect location. Very good price. Decent bar which is always a good place to chill past closing time. Used breakfast once, did the job. Friendly staff. Only slight negative is that the room did get a little hot but for what you pay its not a big deal.

Stayed here just for one night, with 2 friends. The hotel is exceptionally average: the rooms, the building, the size of rooms, breakfast choice etc. The major plus is the proximity to everything. Plus that during the day you are in the perfect spot for brunching on the canal. BUT, because you're in the heart of everything you have a... More

I've stayed at the Torenzicht on numerous occasions before and always found it to be okay but recent changes made by new owners and have put it back on my "favourites" list. Even though this hotel and bar is in the heart of the red light area of Amsterdam the staff made me feel very welcome and I managed to... More

Rooms are clean, breakfast was better than expected, staff were not so friendly but ok. (Especially hk). Location is super! Located just in the city center, red light district. To sum up, it was nice.

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
