The hotel is very well positioned however for what you pay the rooms are awful. The rooms are small and smelly and the shared bathroom never had paper in, and stunk. The shower was unclean and had hair in the plughole and the condensation coming from the windows was black as the windows are so dirty. Food and drink in... More

The hotel is placed in the heart of Red Light District,at walking distance from Nieuwmarkt metro station. Surrounded by coffee shops, pubs, and red lights,of course. The bar is 24 hours opened and also works as a front desk. Included breakfast, quite various.Friendly personnel. As minuses:poor free WiFi at the 3rd level, though it works very well in the bar or restaurant. The staircase is very... More

The hotel is located in the centre of the red light district, within walking distance of all of the main attractions (Anne Frank house, central station, Heineken experience...). The furthest walk was probably to the Heineken brewery which took us about 15-20 minutes. Regardless, its lovely to walk through the city so this didn't bother us. We arrived at about... More

The hotel was in a great location and the staff were amazing, the hotel is a little shabby but the sheets and bedding were very clean and we had fresh towels every day, I would recommend it to those that want to see Amsterdam for all it has to offer.....oh plus 24 hr bar!

I stayed here with a friend at the beginning of the year and couldn't have picked a better located hotel. It's right in the middle of the red light district and shops and the atmosphere was great. Lovely bar downstairs which we spent lots of time in. Shared showers were clean and rooms were adequate. Breakfast was also really good.... More

This hotel is in the middle of the red light district. The atmosphere is electric and it can be loud outside the window on Saturday night because it is very busy. My wife and I went with a friend and had a triple room which was spacious and clean and tidy. Towels are changed every day and it wasn't a... More

Stayed here at the end of August with 2 friends. Very reasonably priced for the location, easy walking distance from the train station and countless bars, coffee shops and other Amsterdam attractions. Room was clean, small but enough room for 3 people. One window didn't close properly but that was the only fault. Shower was a bit difficult to get... More

I stayed here with my girlfriend for 3 nights. We had never been to Amsterdam and wanted to stay close to the centre to have everything within walking distance. Everything truly was within walking distance. We were on a budget as this was the first stop on a 3 week trip. We read many reviews before deciding on this hotel.... More

Two (girl) travelling friends, we were warmly welcomed at the hotel -located over an old school wooden bar, epic!- where we spent 5 nights. Admittance only allowed if you showed your hotel card, plus the receptionist (aka the bartender) is there 24/7 so there is always a face control, which made us feel very safe! Never mind the shared bathrooms/showers,... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
