Hotel Synopsis is in a great location, very central so you are able to walk everywhere. We had the garden room - although it was too wet to ever go out into the garden, we at least got to see greenery from the window. The bed was the most comfortable we slept in in the 7 weeks we were travelling... More

Great location by quiet canal, impressive use of space in exceptionally well-equipped and comfortable room, friendly and knowledgeable host, superb breakfast served in the cost kitchen, sure the garden is a real gem in the summer. Boutique B&B at its very best.

If you are looking for a quiet place away from the hubbub but close to major attractions , this is the place! Large rooms (only two are !), confort and amenities that make you feel very good. Choose to make your breakfast at Mrs. Elizabeth, a perfect host who will be worth every minute in the city cuisine.

Tranquil private home with boutique rooms close to Hermitage, Hortus Botanicus, Waterlooplein, Skinny bridge and almost at junction of Keizergracht and the Amstel. Elizabeth de Witte is a charming host and knowledgeable about attractions, local restaurants and everything to do with Amsterdam. Fabulous breakfasts to order taken in oasis surroundings of... More

You know you are going to enjoy your stay at this lovely hotel from the amusing and very informative information Elizabeth sends to you, detailing how to get into the city and to find Synopsis. As other reviewers have noted ,staying at the Synopsis is like staying in a real home - but with all the privacy and comfort of a hotel . We stayed six nights and our groundfloor room was spacious and airy and tastefully decorated. It was also very quiet and peaceful .The bed was a large and very comfortable double and... More

We stayed 3 nights at the Synopsis and concluded that this has to be one of the best bargains in Europe. The room we stayed in (#2) was equal to, if not better than, most bedrooms in a regular house. It was spacious, modern, decorated impeccably (Martha Stewart quality). The bath had accessories and amenities we have never seen in... More

My fiancee and I spend the weekend here and we were SO happy from the minute we walked it! A gorgeously presented home (really is a home!) awaited us with a magical little garden in the back (where we had a fantastic breakfast!) Elizabeth (the owner/manager) was charming, attentive and really made us feel at home. The rooms were perfect,... More

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighborhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
