it is at a very good location. walking distance from Rijksmuseum (I amsterdam), van gogh museum, Albert Cuyp Market & Heineken Experience. It is very very near Anne frankhuis. Also walking distance from Centraale Station I dragged my 12.5kg luggage with no problem but dragging luggage will be a bit bumpy anywhere in Amsterdam because of the pavement. There are... More

I enjoyed my two day stay at the Christian shelter. Breakfast was amazing especially the eggs and cheese. Staff was really helpful and they do have plenty of fun christian activities to do such as bible discussion, bible studies and etc. Amazing location and wonderful service.

I was really confused trying to choose a hostel for one night in Amsterdam as I had to find something just before my trip. Among many options I chose "Shelter Jordan" and I do not regret that. The information I had about this hostel before my trip (read in Internet) was the fact that it is a Christian hostel (drinking... More

I stayed one week on this youth hostel, it was my worst experience in hostels. -staff not friendly, they don't show you the hostel, you have to find by yourself if you need something -you CAN'T COOK, there is a kitchen but only use by the staff. Meals cost 6 euros. -a small fridge for all the hostel ... My... More

I stayed here for 4 nights in summer 2014. The staff is really nice and friendly. They don't try to pressure you into joining bible discussions or going to church with them. The cafeteria has great and affordable meals day and night. They even have movie nights! The facilities, however, left something to be desired. This is a hostel run... More

Shelter Jordan is my regular place when I have to sleep over in Amsterdam. Everytime i'm there, i am overwhelmed by the nice, peaceful atmosphere and the very dedicated people who work there. The prices are low, the services are fine and the environment is safe. So, what do you want more?

We chose this hostel because we didn't want to be right in the middle of the bars and such. It had a great vibe and we met girls here that we still keep in touch with. It's clean, quiet and they have a mailbox so you can send postcards from the front desk! We rented bikes from the hostel as... More

Pros: very clean showers were hot, bathrooms didn't tend to be crowded lockers were of a good size (bring your own lock) fairly friendly reception quiet and peaceful - as a solo female traveller it felt pretty safe, especially with the unisex floors. no curfew, no mandatory being kicked out for cleaning free breakfast - basic but very good (the... a little alarmingly in the midst of lots of sex workers standing in windows, but a great stay when you get past the shock of that. we did meet two girls here that we enjoyed so much that we met up with them at several other points throughout our european adventure, which was nice, so points for facilitating community.

A lot of great and nice people! Very calm and relaxing, especially after a day of sightseeing. The neighbourhood is really nice and quiet :) It's a short walk to the center and the people are very kind and ready to help you out at any time. I rented a bike there too for a perfect Amsterdam experience :)

Staying in Jordaan

Neighborhood Profile
Jordaan
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
