I really enjoyed my stay at this hostel, it is in a really good position with plenty of restaurants around, (it's also really close to Anne Franks House). The common room/dining room was really homely and welcoming. The staff were really friendly and helpful espeically when it came to recommending where to go during the day. Loved my stay in... More

This is a fantastic hostel if you want to stay in a nice area of Amsterdam! The city is small enough, though, so you can easily get to other areas. We rented bikes from a place on the main road 2 mins away for a really cheap price! The free breakfast was good, and they had lots of cheap options... More

If you're in Amsterdam for fun, party or just to have a pleasant experience, don't stay in this hostel. I was in Europe for 6 weeks with 3 friends and it was unanimously our worst hostel. It was really expensive for a shared room with 16 people with dirty washrooms and really not a smart staff who don't really care... More

I went there with my mum for Christmas and it was very good! The staff is friendly and welcoming, the beds are clean and confortable, the main room for dinner, breakfast and chill out is very nice and you can eat whenever you want so it was very handy. The staff helped us to rent bikes and book cruises! Very... More

This hostel is quintessentially what a hostel should be friendly welcoming and homely. I would definitely return to this place in a heartbeat. The main area is great and makes a good area chatting and the food prices for the cafe are very reasonable.

Shelter Jordan is a great place to stay if you're a young traveler trying to save some money by staying in a hostel. It's cheap and has everything you need. The rooms/bathrooms were clean and the free breakfast was good as well. The staff is very friendly and will help you with whatever you need (directions, tips, recommendations, etc.). The... More

Stayed in the Artis room with 6 girls. Cleanliness of the room was good, bathrooms were decent. Communal bathrooms for the whole floor (not my favorite). Friendly, helpful staff. NO ALCOHOL OR DRUGS IN HOSTEL. Decent location for walking place to place.

I've stayed at Shelter Jordan a couple of times and always had a great stay. It's about half an hour walk from Centraal station or get the tram to the junction of Rozengracht and Marnixstraat which does not take along at all. There are separate floors for ladies and gents. I stayed in a 6 man dorm and there was... More

You get the bare minimum. A room, a place to shower, and a very light, free breakfast. They do not even allow you to -pay- for extra breakfast. If you want more food, they only give you plain bread and nothing else. I don't eat bread often. You have to sign up for dinner ahead of time. If not, too... More

My first stay at hostel was great, very clean and not noisy hostel. Breakfast were free, also the dinner, everyone was very kind and helpful. You can send postcards right from the hostel. Showers nice and clean, also toilets. Girl rooms are divided from boys. Near to the city centre.

Staying in Jordaan

Neighborhood Profile
Jordaan
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
