We stayed in the White Tulip from Sunday 19th of July till Wednesday 22nd of July. We booked a private room on the second floor. We only had ONE room key which stayed with us at all time. When we arrived on Sunday, we slept in the room from 3h pm till 7h30 pm and then left (it was during... More

I was worried about the size of the bedroom (4 people) and it was actually fine. The hostel is well situated, but the street is noisy. All the hostel is great but there are not enough showers and toilets, and the rooms are not very clean. For a group of friends, that´s good !

White tulip hostel in one of the cheapest in Amsterdam but it's fairly clean the beds are comfy and the staff are really fun. We stayed in a room with 12 people and it was surprisingly fun. we went out with 6 of the others and had some drinks downstairs. It was super safe and really enjoyable we had a... More

This location is VERY central. It's the red light district. The security is good, but the beds are kind of ridiculous. I was unlucky enough to get top bunk which was way too close to the ceiling. Not only could you not sit up in bed, you needed to awkwardly roll into the bed. Mind you I am 6 feet... More

The rooms were reasonable, although the provided lockers were terrible. They only opened part way and it was difficult to access your gear. The ceiling was very low and inconvient for the top bunk. The stairs were crazy and difficult to navigate. The rooms and bathrooms were clean. The staff was very helpful. The location is top notch. The big... More

Stayed here while on a stag do with friends. Rooms were clean so wasn't too bad. Toilet and shower facilities were ok but were unisex which was a bit strange. Slainte pub next door was good enough for food and drink as it was cheap enough but the smell in the place was terrible! Overall not bad :)

Our room was clean, beds were comfortable, nice big lockers under the beds. The washing facilities were cleaned regularly and were well kept. The only issue I had with the shower rooms was how slippy the floor got whilst showering - just be careful and don't try any disco dancing in there. The pub downstairs gave you a discount if... My friend and I visited this hostel from the 11th - 14th May, and it was great. The room is basic, with mirrors on each side. There is lockers to put your things in, but remember to bring your own lock! Outside of the hostel room is a non-sleeping room, where you can sit and talk, have your laptop, have... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
