This very cute little hotel is about 1.5 kms away from the Grand Central Train station and easy enough to find. Dragging suitcases on the beautiful cobblestone streets was challenging at times but our host was fabulous and allowed us to check in early! There are loads of pretty steep stairs so if possible request a room on the 1st... More

We visited Amsterdam for my husbands birthday and wanted a reasonable priced hotel close to Dam Square to make seeing the sights easier. Other reviews descirbed the rooms as small but when we arrived we were surprised at just how small. Miniscule best describes it. You could barely walk around the bed! But having said that the staff are lovely,... More

You get what you pay for and here we paid for a place to sleep and that was it. Bed, blanket and a toilet is all we need. It is a small place and even smaller to get in but if you plan on exploring the entire time, this place is fine.

I have stayed at Doria Hotel a few times now. The location is great as its right next to Dam Square and a few minutes walk to the station. The rooms are basic but are good value for money. Breakfast could be a bit better as there is no cooked food just meats/cheeses toast and fruit but its nicely presented.... More

I stayed at single room. Only good things; discount at restaurant for visitors and location is perfect. It is very close to De Wallen, Flower M. Dam and other landmarks. Breakfast was so good. Bad things; tight rooms, smells pizza everytime, slow wi-fi, dark and non-air rooms.

The location of this hotel is excellent being right in the centre of Amsterdam. However that is reflected in the price and the quality falls way behind! I booked a room for 3 people. It was very small and had very basic facilities. The room was clean but was in major need of decorating or refurbishment. There was no air... More

if you like a good nights sleep then I suggest you look elsewhere. The hotel was brilliantly located 5 mins from Centraal station and 5 minutes from the red light district. The great location comes at a price..sleep deprivation. Luckily we were up quite late..little choice really as the street below us was a hive of activity until the wee... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
