It is our first time to stay in hotel situated in the heart of the city, just moments away from Dam Square and approximately 30 meters, The hotel staff warm welcomed us. They helped us to understand what to do and where to go as we arrived. The room is very clean and inviting.

Doria is the best of three Amsterdam hotels I've stayed in within this price range. My single room was on the third floor - Room 304. The room is very small, which is very typical of budget hotels in Amsterdam, but the standards were higher than I've experienced elsewhere. The bed is very comfortable, with a typically large Dutch pillow;... More

I must say that the location cannot get any better right at the Dam Square. Always had good experiences visiting Amsterdam. Rooms especially the triple room was oddly shaped and not too comfortably but the double room was ok. Would stay again if on similar Budget.

Room was a little small but perfect for what we needed. Good selection at breakfast. Unfortunately while in Amsterdam my husband's wallet was stolen along with all our spending money. The hotel went out of their way to help us in this situation. I cannot fault them. When we're next in Amsterdam, we'll be back here. Loved it.

Very central hotel. Single rooms and bathrooms are extremely small and very basic. Non-functioning telephone left that way throughout my 4 day stay, athough it was reported several times. Towels which were meant to be white, were greyish in colour. Breakfast is extremely basic. If you are looking for a quiet night, ask for a room at the back as... More

This hotel is perfectly situated. It is walking distance to Anne Franks house, Van Gogh museum and many other places. The staff are very friendly. We had booked 2 double rooms. We arrived 40 minutes before our check in time but were able to check in as one room was ready. The rooms were ideal for our short stay. The... More

Booking.com showed this Hotel as an a) inexpensive, b) very centrally located Hotel, so we booked. Both of above are true. But the rooms are cramped, hardly any place to move, you get not the least comfort. The mattress is too thick and so soft that you can't sleep, but wake up with back pain. No toilet brush. Free Wi-Fi... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
