This is a beautiful hotel in a building from the 17th century. The staff were very friendly and helpful (provided a map, carried out luggage up the stairs, made a dinner reservation for us). The rooms were clean and larger than expected. We were on the top floor with a canal view which was fantastic. When booking you need to... More

Having had a room on the top floor and looking out over the river Amstel, I was very happy with my choice of hotel. Not perfect, a little quirky, and suited me just fine. What you get: the real feel of a historic and renovated town house complete with utilitarian bathroom and steep small stairs, a great view, a good... More

Stayed at this hotel for three nights and booked through travel agent. The hotel took the full amount which wasn't a problem but was charged in Swiss francs instead of euros. Was informed that this is normal practice and there was no other option however when I checked in and paid the city tax using the same card I was... More

I stayed in this hotel with a friend for 2 nights in March, it's in a decent location and everything is in walking distance. We arrived earlier than check in, but our room was ready and we were able to check in. The lady at reception was friendly and helpful. Only down side I would say was the very steep... More

This hotel wasn't perfect but it was very memorable and enjoyable. Many of the reviews mention the stairs. The stairs are hilariously ridiculous, probably not so much if you are older, unfit or have some sort of disability. We managed to get the attic room right at the very top. The higher up you go the steeper the stairs become.... More

I loved this little hotel! Very friendly staff, very close to the action. If you are looking for a cheap room this is your place! It's very small, but homely and nice. Bathroom a little cramped, but clean. Stairs are very steep, but it's an old Dutch house and to be expected. Beds very comfy- I would definitely come back!

Great location with traditional Amsterdam architecture. The staff was was beyond helpful and so friendly and welcoming. Amar is the epitome of what service excellence should be in the hospitality industry. We will definitely return to this hotel on our next visit to Amsterdam.

This is a great little hotel in a very central location. Staff were all exceptionally helpful from the booking through to the departure, well worth a visit. BUT beware of the stairs! There is no lift and there are not too many floors but the stairs like many in Amsterdam are very narrow and windy. We did not get to... More

We have just returned after saying at this hotel. As a large group, we found it really comfortable, the rooms were spacious and nicely decorated. The staff are really friendly, it is your typical Amsterdam hotel with steep stairs, but this just added to the age and the type of building you would expect, beautiful!!!!

Our first visit to Amsterdam and we couldn't have chosen a better hotel. No, it doesn't have a restaurant or provide breakfast, but it is a historic canal side property. The staff will direct you to Brug34 for breakfast, a lovely modern and bright little cafe just a few steps away where the young staff will prepare your food from... More
