My boyfriend and I stayed at the Hotel Brouwer, and we really enjoyed our time there. The hotel is accessible and comfortable. There is one computer with Internet access off the main room that was available for us to use free of charge, as long as we didn't use it too long to preclude other guests from using it. There... I have no idea how this hotel got rated so highly but, to tell the truth, the entire experience has caused me to doubt the ratings process of tripadvisor.com. For the money, I suppose it is fine, but it is nowhere near the top 100 in Amsterdam, let alone 20. The floors are so slanted (at least in the Van... More

A group of 7 American women in Amsterdam = trouble... but not really. We felt as if we were home at the Hotel Brouwer, and acted accordingly. The house is truly historic, crooked in all the right ways and wonderfully maintained. The rooms are all clean, as are the bathrooms. The breakfast is small, but not to be missed, it... More

This is the second time we've stayed at the Hotel Brouwer. We stayed there in May 2007 also. Both times we stayed in the Vermeer room which I really like. The location is great and it's very easy to walk almost everywhere. Love the breakfast - it's a soft boiled egg, tasty dutch cheese, some breads with jam and butter,... More

We stayed in the Escher room which is on the top floor. We went in July and the weather was around 60 degrees F. It was perfect. The room smelled like clean laundry and the beds were very comfortable. Be warned that it is two twin beds pushed together and they do come apart. The bathrooms were great. Two sinks,... More

Well, you get what you pay for - this is absolutely right. Brouwer hotel has a good location, a reasonable price and good (though with the low ceiling) rooms. Breakfast is almost nothing, but there are lots of little cafes and restaurants in this area, so it's not a problem. They have no TV in the room, but this is... More

Hotel Brouwer is a superbe B&B type hotel with very spacious rooms without costing an arm and a leg. View of canal from rooms are fantastic. Place is relaxing, quiet, very convenient if require a break from the mayhem of Amsterdam, also has the smallest elevator I have ever seen!

We stayed here for one night on a brief sightseeing trip to Amsterdam. We were not disappointed. This is a small hotel in a really old building with lots of character and rooms with a view over the canal. The beds were comfy and bathrooms rather large. We didn't spend a lot of time in our rooms, but the hotel... More

Several couples chose the Brouwer during a recent visit to Amsterdam. We were all there to celebrate my wife's 40'th birthday. We chose the Brouwer based on many online recommendations (including here). We were not disappointed. The Brouwer is quaint, quirky (in a good way), convenient, clean, and affordable. It is in a good location close to the main train... More

I had a nice stay at the hotel. It was less than a 10 minute walk from the central train station & the Anne Frank House - right on the edge of the Jordaan section of Amsterdam. Everyone spoke fluent English. There is a spiral staircase up to the rooms, but also a very small elevator to get your luggage... More

Staying in Centrum

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
