Me and my wife stayed in Van Onna during the first week of sept 2011. First of all the place was difficult to find, the taxi driver had no clue and we had to actually use our gps to find the location and then again ask an elderly couple who gladly took us there...Van Onna is more like a hostel... The place was nice, by the canal, eventhough the rooms are small and bathroom seemed to ask for some maintenance (shower). There is no lift :/ simple basic rooms, no extras. Wifi doesnt work in the rooms but only in the stairs. Breakfast could be better. They ask cash payments otherwise 5% surcharge.. Location is quiet but at the same... More

If I were rating this hotel for the value it offers, I would give it four or five stars. it is one of the few hotels in Amsterdam with breakfast and free wi-fi included in the price. I have stayed at this hotel multiple times over the last 12 years. But, as I age and as I travel more, I... More

This hotel was a brilliant price and has an amazing location. Very basic rooms, but clean and just what you need. You also get free wifi and free breakfast which is a hard boiled egg, 2 white & 2 brown slices of bread, ham, cheese, toast, jam and for some reason chocolate sprinkles. We warned that there are lots of... More

You can't beat the neighborhood and the feel of staying here. Loved the sound of the church bells, the bikes as they ring their bells, and the general feel of this area. The folks at the hotel are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are quaint - we had a strange shower would be my only complaint. It came with... More

First off, I have stayed at Hotel Van Onna several times over the past few years. Before, I would stay in hostels and other cheap lodgings but always found the prices too steep and the quarters stifiling. Hotel Van Onna however, was a breath of fresh air! The rooms are large and spacious and modestly decorated. The location is fantastic,... More

Good cheap hotel. Location is in quiet area, approx 10 minutes from Dam Square. Room was simple and clean, nice view of the canal. Breakfast done the job and was good set up for the day. Would stay here again!

Stayed here for 3 nights in mid-April. Came for Keukenhof, mostly. The room was basic and had a separated bathroom. Pleasant enough. It had breakfast included. 50 Euro a night was a good price. The staff were more than helpful. What I liked most was the location and the Jordaan neighborhood. The 3-building hotel was fronted by a canal and... More

I first stayed at the Hotel Van Onna in 2007 and loved its location in Bloemgracht, which is on a pretty quiet canal in the middle of the lovely Jordaan residential area but is close to the Westmarkt tram stop and is about 20 minutes walk from Centraal Station. So on the 18rh of May 2011, when I was going... More

It is situated in the Jordaan, a pleasant and quiet district, in the centre of Amsterdam. The building overlooks the Bloemgracht. The decoration is made of very beautiful black and white pictures of Amsterdam. The rooms are basic but practical and clean. The bathroom could be improved by a shower door or curtain to avoid flood. The hotel is non... More

Staying in Jordaan

Neighborhood Profile
Jordaan
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
