It's great, everything is fine, if they got a kitchen, then it's "Awesome". No kidding, wonderful location, perfect services....... I will definitely visit there another time I visit Amsterdam. Check it out, then you got to know what I m saying.

Nice place, friendly staff with a warm smile always on their faces.... The breakfast was also good and the place was secure The rooms were a bit congested and the washrooms even cleaned daily, had problems Located besides or within the RLD, so the street got a bit creepy...... but the location itself was perfect to xplore amsterdam

Yes, the location was great, but being that close to the Red Light district also means that it can be pretty loud at night. The hostel was quite cheap and comes with free breakfast. The facility was ok and I do like the garden.

I would definitely recommend you this hostel if you're travelling alone. I took the 2 bed female room, the room is basic but clean and quiet and the bed was comfy. The common bathroom is very clean. Actually, the whole hostel is very well kept! The staff is very nice and helpful if you have any questions, and I enjoyed... More

It turned out that my worries were totally unnecessary. Shelter city is perfectly safe for anyone and the staffs were really helpful. Breakfast is good too especially... More

I was there with a friend, and as we are christians we loved and appreciated this hostel very much! Furthermore it's not that expensive, it's near to the central station and the center of the city. The staff is very friendly and open-hearted! :)

I really enjoyed my stay at shelter city. We were a group of four and managed to get a four bunk ensuite room to ourselves! The hotel was excellent value, came with breakfast as well as lockers. The rooms were clean and functional, but no more. Would recommend to anyone looking for cheap accommodation. However, it's worth noting this is... More

Hostels are meant to be special, and this one opened my eyes yet again. It is founded with the mission of being a "shelter" in the red light district, run by Christians from all over the world. I met great people here and not only had the usual backpacker chats, but also lots of chatting on spiritual and faith matters.... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighborhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
