Hostel- Stayokay is much bigger than your typical European hostels. Professional and business- oriented, it’s the closest thing to your standard 2- star hotel from the States. The continental breakfast is plentiful and delicious. Room- Standard and spacious. We shared a 6- person room complete with twin bunks. Staff- Friendly and accommodating. They are a wealth of Amsterdam knowledge and... More

Just a little confuse in the chek in, our room was already booked. They sent us to another room, bigger for the same price. This was a fantastic way to hold the customer. Simple room with bathrrom and beds, very ok. The park nearby is awesome, the casino is nearby too. Bustop, Tram stop everything on the surroundings. The most... More

Oh where to begin..... I had the misfortune of staying at the Stay Okay at Vondelpark, Amsterdam for 2 whole weeks (not my choice) This hostel has absolutely the worst standards for cleaning EVER! The shower was covered in black mould...(see photos) The cleaner came in with a dirty mop that smelled really bad and proceeded to "clean" the shower.... More

Need to get a tram from the main station! Really big hostel. cool reception area with comfy sofas, magazines and internet! Breakfast was included, managed to keep some for lunch on the sly!! Good music in reception area! Good, cheap food in the bar, wedges especially!! Shower and toilet weren't great, very cramped!! Lockers in rooms weren't big enough for... More

Only one restroom and one shower are insufficient for 6 person, particularly if the cleaning is not daily. Small lockers. Otherwise the general atmosphere is friendly and respectful, and the common areas are wide and modern. The location in a park is perfect.

As this was the first part of our Europe trip, we decided to go cheap with the accomodation and booked this hostel. Was already expecting to "rough it out" but we were pleasantly surprised arriving at Stayokay. The plus points 1) The atmosphere was nice and warm (especially since it was freezing cold outside). Nice to hang out at the... More

I booked online before arriving in Amsterdam, panicked that most hotels and hostels in the city seemed booked up. This was a major mistake, not only because there were many more available hotels to find when I got to the city, but also because Vondelpark immediately charged the whole amount to my credit card for 4 nights. I had to... More

Stayokay was my first hostelling experience and boy was I ever traumatized. My bf booked a "mixed room" so we could both enjoy the hostelling experience. I ended up being the unlucky (or maybe it was lucky) one that got to room with NINE other males! This was only the beginning. It was strange how when we checked in, they... More

The Stayokay Vondelpark hostel is by far the worst hostel/hotel I have ever stayed at. They have ridiculous policies, such as "no food or drink allowed in the hostel" and a cancellation policy that might as well not exist. My travel companions and I tried to cancel our third night at the hostel 48 hours in advanced which, in my... More

My husband and I have stayed at hostels before but this time we took our three kids- ages 8 to 14- and found it to be a little too basic for them. It was safe and the location was great but too spartan, too many rough looking young men hanging around- although we never felt threatened or unsafe. The staff... More

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighborhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
